Renee Wyatt Is a Rising Star

Renee Wyatt is a mother of four children whose family life and career have changed dramatically over the past few years. Why has it changed?

Renee Wyatt is a rising television star in Discovery Channel's hit reality show American Guns, now in its second season.

On American Guns, Renee stars alongside her daughter Paige Wyatt, son Kurt, and husband Rich. What makes the show so popular? The family owns and operates Gunsmoke, a leading firearms facility just outside of Denver, Colorado. Yes, Renee Wyatt is a mother, wife, AND skilled at shooting and selling firearms!

Now that's a woman we want to get to know better!

Interview with Renee Wyatt

When I had the opportunity to interview Paige Wyatt, I jumped at the chance. It's not every day that I get to meet a woman who successfully balances motherhood with working in a firearms facility and starring on Discovery Channel!

Paige Wyatt is candid and upbeat in her answers to my questions.

What is your position at Gunsmoke?

"I am the official "Organizer". I try to keep my husband on track (which is impossible), and I watch the money. I also hope that I act as a kind of buffer for Kurt and Paige in their interactions at Gunsmoke, and that I am available to them for support of any kind."

"I also help on the sales floor and spearhead most of the special events. Now that I think of it, I am interacting even more with the customers lately because so many women are coming in and I love helping them."

Did you have apprehensions about putting your family into the reality television spotlight?

"I absolutely did have apprehensions. My first and foremost priority is to raise my children. That means gaging everything we do as parents in relation to how it will affect them. Doing a TV series was a total unknown for me, and I don't usually take risks like that."

"In this case though, the potential benefits outweighed my cautious nature and the kids' input was very important. Kurt and Paige are very independent and grounded. There was no doubt in my mind that they could handle it, and they both wanted to do American Guns really bad."

I bet! We love watching your family interact on the episodes.

"I look at it as an opportunity to build an even greater foundation for future generations of the Wyatt family. This truly is a one in a million chance and we would have been foolish to pass it up. We are just very careful with how we go about it."

You mentioned the TV series. How has American Guns impacted your family life?

"Gunsmoke is booming and people stop us in every possible place you can imagine. Those are the two big things. Expanding Gunsmoke is awesome - what's better than that, right? And meeting the tons and tons of cool folks we would have never had the opportunity to if it hadn't been for the show is such a bonus!"

"That includes all the great people we get to work with in filming American Guns and all of the incredibly kind people at Discovery, too."

Yes, your television fan base is growing quickly! Can you share a fun, fan story with us?

"I loved the day I was at Disney World with my two younger daughters and a family with two young girls approached us with such awe. It turns out the girls were avid shooters and they consider American Guns the best show ever because we portray girls who love to shoot in such a positive light. They REALLY idolized Paige."

"It made me feel so good to see that we contributed to the positive self-image of these two young ladies. They said people used to give them a hard time, or make fun of them even. But, with American Guns on the air, they don't get that reaction any more. I don't know whose smile was bigger...theirs or mine!"

The Interview Continues!

You have four children. How do you balance being a mom, working at Gunsmoke, and now being a reality television star?

"The key is efficiency. Do things right and you will only have to do them once. Don't multi task. Delegate the things that can be done by someone else....and, by all means, give yourself a break. No one is perfect and not every single thing you do has to be flawless."

"I am also a big believer in plenty of sleep, exercise and eating healthy (that means no fast food - even if you have no time to cook!). When you feel good, and have a clear mind, you will perform better, be less emotional and have more strength to tackle the really tough issues that come your way."

"Oh, and one other thing: steer clear of drama. Nothing can squander your time and your personal resources like a crisis driven lifestyle. Calm down and solve the's just a change in attitude really!"

What is one tip you would give moms who are struggling with two kids or more?

"Enjoy them! Slow down and realize what those kids are: The biggest blessing in your life."

"If you choose to view the relationship you have with your children with the reverence it deserves, you will take to heart how important and how wonderful being a mother is. Sure, it's hard work, but you signed up for that. Look at those little people you created and think about how lucky you are to be their Mom."

"I believe the more you think this way, and how this perspective causes you to parent them, the better children you will have. And, guess what? That makes your job easier!"
