Is Singer Alanis Morissette Very Lucky or Very Loved
Alanis Morissette in Video Singing Thank U
Is Alanis Morissette God?
This article is dedicated to all the creative artists and geniuses that may be having trouble with their intense emotions. At the age of 17 years old, Alanis Morissette had a nervous breakdown. Then at age 20 she made Jagged Little Pill-- the biggest selling album by a female artist at that time. Vincent Van Gogh spent the last years of his life in a mental institution, but his paintings now sell for million of dollars each.
Jagged Little Pill sold more than 16 million copies in the U.S. and 33 million worldwide, making it the second biggest selling album by a female artist ever (behind Shania Twain's Come On Over). Singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette is now a vegan (no animal foods) that does yoga. I just learned after publishing this article that by sheer luck, I published this article on the same day that Jagged Little Pill was published 17 years ago-- June 13.
Alanis Morissette had suffered from anorexia [nervosa] and bulimia from age 14 to 18, confessing she was "a self-loathing, dysmorphic girl." Body dysmorphic disorder is a type of chronic mental illness in which you can't stop thinking about a flaw with your appearance — a flaw that is either minor or imagined. She became a vegan in 2009. Another great singer, Karen Carpenter, had anorexia nervosa and she died from it at age 32.
Her singing was very different than the singing of the other pop singing stars. Some called her singing nasal and whiny. Wikipedia says: "Morissette is also known for her powerful and emotive mezzo-soprano voice" and:
Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actress. She has won 16 Juno Awards and seven Grammy Awards, was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and also shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. Morissette began her career in Canada, and as a teenager recorded two dance-pop albums, Alanis and Now Is the Time, under MCA Records Canada.
Her first international album was the rock-influenced Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995.
This is not my area of expertise since I have never read a book on music whereas I have read hundreds of books on health. But music is about enjoying it. So here is her biggest hit ever-- Ironic. Watch this video and after it they should have one with the lyrics. But here are how the lyrics begin:
An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic... don't you think
It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take

Alanis Morissette Acting at Age 10
At the age of 10, Alanis Morisette was on 5 episodes of the Canadian TV show called You Can't Do That on Television . Someone could say that she was lucky to be able to be on that show at age 10, but it was not a computer that chose her to be on it and the person that did choose for her to be on it, probably liked her a lot.
In Canada at the age of 16 she produced the dance-pop album Alanis . It went platinum. When she was trying to get a record company to make Jagged Little Pill , all had turned her down before Maverick Records chose to make it. The following goes beyond luck. Someone there must have loved her a lot because they agreed to pay her $1.50 for every album sold which was a totally unheard of amount for anyone to receive for an album at that time. Usually they have to work out how many pennies they will receive for each album.
Now they figured that they would make just enough to pay for a second album. But someone must have liked her a lot since an influential Los Angeles modern rock radio station began playing her songs from that album. In a short time that album had sold 17 million copies and she made $25 million dollars. So she was a multi-millionaire at age 21. You can read more about this on that very long page on her in Wikipedia.
Yoga is important to Alanis Morissette and she visited India for 6 weeks and she was transformed there according to this article [no longer available]. In the song below, Thank U , she sings "thank you India." Another song below is Hand in My Pocket . This song was very popular and I liked it a lot. I have an article about 23 Celebrities That Do Yoga but I only chose the most famous ones for that like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
In all branches of yoga, the ultimate goal is the attainment of an eternal state of perfect consciousness. Perfect means nothing lacking. Total. Complete. An end of suffering. Perfect peace, endless love and infinite joy. Buddha and Jesus had attained this.
Also the number one album ever by a female artist was by Shania Twain. She is mentioned in my very popular article 29 Celebrities That Do Meditation along with Jerry Seinfeld, Al Gore, Howard Stern (America's Got Talent), Paul McCarney, Dr. Oz, Oprah and others. The last 4 have videos so you can hear them telling you about it. There is even a video showing Jessica Simpson laugh while doing meditation in front of a Buddhist monk.
Alanis Morissette made the song Thank U after coming back from India and in it she appears nude in the streets of New York. Oddly enough I have an article about a Woman in New York Being Arrested for walking around topless which is legal in New York and some other cities. There is a movement to make it legal everywhere.
In 1999 Alanis Morissette was in the movie Dogma . It had many stars in it like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Linda Fiorentino, Alan Rickman, Bud Cort, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, George Carlin and Janeane Garofalo. In this movie, Alanis Morissette is God!
In 2001 Alanis Morissette (not spelled Morisette) was in the movie, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. This movie had the following stars in it: Kevin Smith as Silent Bob, Shannon Elizabeth, Will Ferrell, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Jason Lee (star of My Name is Earl ), George Carlin, Judd Nelson, Shannen Doherty, Tracy Morgan and more. Also in this movie Alanis Morissette played God!
Both movies were written and directed by Kevin Smith who played Silent Bob. This article says that he loved Morissette very much ("Smith sounds so smitten you might wonder whether he was even kidding"). Here is what Kevin Smith says about Alana Morissette and what this article has been leading up to:
It's kind of hard not to fall in love with her. She just has a serene presence about her, such a calming effect on everything and everyone. A lot of people have a lot of special skills, but she is the single most unique person I've met. Truthfully, I usually kind of downplay everything surrounding my work, for fear something won't live up to my expectations-- but Alanis, she's the closest thing to the divine here on earth.
Besides what it says about Alanis Morissette it is a great testimonial about being a vegan and doing yoga. One theory that Albert Einstein believed in was that eating dead animals makes you more violent. The animals have a lot of fear hormones in them when they are killed. Ex-President Bill Clinton and boxer Iron Mike Tyson became vegans. Even if you do not stop eating meat, there are many benefits of eating less meat and dairy.
I just saw that Alicia Silvertone's website The Kind Life has an article about how Alanis Morissette wrote how she is a big fan of attachment parenting. Alicia Silverstone is also a vegan. Attachment parenting is talked about in my article above about the woman topless in New York being arrested. It is also talked about on my article about How to Raise Happy and Peaceful Kids.
