Jab We Met - My Review
Jab We Met is one of my most favorite movies. The movie is so damn good I just cannot stop thinking about it. The characters are so lovable and adorable. The story is nothing great to be boasted about, but love stories are not meant to be thrillers. Just the special people and the special moments shared between them is what make it a great love story. And undoubtedly, Jab We Met has all that.
The movie starts off on a low note, quite shockingly. You wonder what is happening. And just then, it takes off on a great speed, before you start getting bored. After watching the first 20 minutes of the film, a few people started shouting “how boring movies is this” but actually, I liked it.
Later, everyone was enjoying it. The story is about two people who met in a train, have their own problems, and are trying to solve each others problem and they ultimately fall in love.
Both of them are absolutely different from each other, like North Pole and South Pole. But it is what they learn form each other and this is what brings them closer to each other.
The director has portrayed Punjabi culture in the best possible way one could. Detailing of every character, his dressing sense, his style of speaking, his lingo, etc. Everything is perfect and all characters are played by apt actors.
Shahid Kapoor is fabulous. In the beginning, he looks dumb (he is supposed to look that way). Later, he looks so adorable, you cannot take your eyes off him. His performance is miles ahead of his previous films and he has surely rocked the bollywood with his forthcoming years. He has got his expressions right in every frame. Keep it up Shahid.
Kareena Kapoor is very impressive. In the first half, she plays herself as a funny Punjabi kudi, total masti-type, non-stop-chatter-box, etc. In the second half, she is so subtle, you actually wonder if she is the same girl. She is brilliant in the film. An award-winning performance I must say. She looked good too.
All other characters are good, just the way they should have acted. Thankfully, there were no loud performances because in Punjabi style, it is very easy to get carried away.
Music is wonderful. Mauja mauja song is superb. Tum se hi is very soulful. Yeh ishq haaye is so cute. Aaoge jab tum is a brilliant track. Aao milo chalo is a nice song as well. Nagada baja is a good peppy Bhangra song. Each and every song is well picturized, only the placement is not apt for a couple of them.
Cinematography is excellent. Manali, beautiful scenic vacation destination in India, has been captured very well in this movie. Costumes are perfect. Kareena wearing a T-shirt and a salwar while sleeping in the train was the best, very unique indeed. Last, but not the least, Kareena-Shahid couple looks made-for-each-other. I recommend all those people - who are in love, who want to be in love, who believe in love, who are Punjabis, who love Punjabis, who love masti, who love great music, who love Bhangra, who love simple stories to watch this film. Jab we met is a must watch for all.
P.S. Just one complaint: Nagada song which was sung by Sonu Nigam (as in audio track) is sung by someone else for the video. Sonu Nigam’s voice would have suited better to Shahid.
