Jana Mashonee's CD New Moon Born is Music I Can Listen to While I Write

Updated on April 14, 2011

I’ve read a bit on Hubpages about people’s writing habits and how some people listen to music when they sit a their computers to create. I could never do that, until this afternoon.

At some point in my internet ramblings I came across Jana Mashonee’s music. She is a Native American singer from Robeson, NC who now lives in New York City. I remember thinking then that I should go back to her website and order a Christmas album. Never did, but apparently I signed up on her website because today I was notified of the new CD she has released called “New Moon Born”. I went to the site and it played the songs in the background as I continued to explore her musical history and accomplishments. I figured out how to join up on the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards web site and voted for her for best pop album.

As I was doing that, I realized that I could work (write) while the music played in the background. I was astonished because I have never been able to string two sentences together if there was any kind of distraction in the room. I took off to itunes and found the album there and it was a steal for $7.99! There are seventeen songs on this CD and they are all excellent. I am writing this now while the album plays in the background and it is so calming. Wow!

I want this poster!

While looking at Jana’s store I noted that she has a poster. I could simply buy it but it would be more fun if she gave me one. Here is how that might work. If only five of you loyal Hubpages followers of resspenser will go to her web site and sign up for her newsletter then let me know you did I can get a free one. If you like the music, please buy it from her site or on itunes.

Listen and watch this!

There might be a prettier version of Amazing Grace, but I haven't heard it.

I know how you feel LOL I couldn't live without Jana & her music, her music has been my constant companion for almost 6 years now and I couldn't work LOL or play with out her ;-) Jana is truly sent by the Creator, a voice and presence we sorely need in this world today.

I've been doubly blessed far beyond what I deserve.

I thank Creator every day for bringing her into my life.

I've been a fan of Jana Mashonee for quite some time, but this new CD New Moon Born is her best I think. It's great to see new people discovering her. I'm a member of her Facebook page and over time feel like I know her. She does so many good things for Native kids. She's always should check out her page = I think, I got it from my browser. Anyway, thanks for posting, always love reading good things about this Native Princess!

She would probably be from somewhere around Lumberton.

But most likely she is from Pembroke, which is actually run by the Lumbee tribe. You can get there by taking

US route 74. It's not far from "South of the Border"

I have been the same way. But I can play Jana's music and work. It is odd that I can do it with her music, may have something to do with my damaged ears!

I'll have to check that music out! I love music and listen to it whenever I can but for some reason when I'm trying to write, it is like 2 worlds colliding. I have to save the music for proofreading or going over pictures or I tend to drift off and not be able to focus on the words! Maybe it's because I have it turned up too loud and I'm dancing at the same time!

Good post and thanks for the tip on another artist. I'm always looking for more!

I started listening to music while doing homework and writing in order to mask out outside noises which were more distracting.

What on earth do you mean? I am simply enjoying the music. The fact that this lady is smokin' hot never was part of the equation. Right.

I am sorry to admit I do not know where Robeson County is exactly. I noticed when I checked wikipedia that it has a 38% Native American population. Do you know what town Janna is from or anything about her that is not on her site? Thanks for reading and she is a great singer.
