Joaquim de Almeida - A Portuguese Actor
Joaquim António Portugal Baptista de Almeida born in Lisbon, 15 March 1957, is a Portuguese actor.
Abandoned the course of the Theater School of Theater and Cinema in Lisbon, leaving to the U.S. where he received training at The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York. He worked in theater in productions of Shakespeare in New York (New York Shakespeare Productions). Worked in other parts, such as the Lorca Blood Wedding, What Would Do Jeanne Moreau (WPA Theater) or The Count of Mount Cristo de Dumas.
With nearly 60 works in the film, Joaquim de Almeida, the more international actors Portuguese, fluent in seven languages, played with different names of international cinema. Participated in productions of countries like the USA, Brazil, Mexico or Argentina. Acted alongside Michael Caine, Richard Gere and Bob Hoskins in The Honorary Consul (1983), Isabelle Huppert in Milan Noir (1987), Harrison Ford in Clear and Present Danger (1994), Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in Desperado (1995) , Marcello Mastroianni in Sostiene Pereira (1996), Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman in Behind Enemy Lines (2001), Daryl Hannah in I Bitch (2004).
It is also famous with its interpretation in films such as Good Morning, Babylon (1987) and The Soldier (1982). Portrait of a Family of Luis Galvão Telles (1991) earned him the Best Actor Award at the Cairo Film Festival (Egypt).
In Portugal for their participation in Temptation (1998), the director Joaquim Leitão earned him a Golden Globe in the category of Best Actor. It was also directed by Leonel Vieira, António Pedro Vasconcelos, Maria de Medeiros, Fernando Lopes, José Nascimento and Teresa Villaverde.
In 2004 joined the cast of twelve episodes of the series of cult U.S. 24 where he played with Kiefer Sutherland. Had interests in other series like The West Wing (2004), La Femme Nikita (1998) and Miami Vice (1985).
Joaquim de Almeida became a naturalized American citizen in October 2005.
