What a year Joseph Gordon-Levitt had in 2012, which can easily be considered his breakout year, launching him into celebrity A-list status. He starred in 4 different movies and hosted Saturday Night Live for his second time. He starred as John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises, which was the biggest movie of the year, along side Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway. In Premium Rush he played a bike messenger, which was a surprisingly great action flick. He then starred in the time travel flick, Looper along side Bruce Willis who plays an older version of Gordon-Levitt's character. Looper received massive critical acclaim, sitting comfortably at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was hailed as one of the best sci-fi movies in the past decade. He is also starred in the Steven Spielberg directed bio-pic, Lincoln, in which he plays Abraham Lincoln's son Robert.

At the age of 33 Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a long career in acting ahead of him. It's only a matter of time before he become a household name like Tom Cruise. Since he starred in his first role in 1992, as a young child, he has already amassed a worldwide total of $3.1 billion, and still has 20+ years of acting left to go. He has hosted Saturday Night Live twice, once in 2009 and once in 2012. He has starred in multiple television shows with 3rd Rock From the Sun being his biggest, in which he starred in 131 episodes as Tommy Solomon. He has been nominated twice for the Golden Globe Awards, once in 2009 for (500) Days of Summer and once in 2011 for Inception, but didn't get the win either time. He also created the show HitRecord on TV through his HitRecord production company, which just finished it's second season earlier this past summer 2015. Gordon-Levitt won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media for the show.

As you can see, 50/50 holds the top spot as rated by critics, but when rated by the fans The Dark Knight Rises is his best movie. With Looper releasing this Friday things could change quickly. Although I think that all of his movies are fantastic, there is one that sticks out above the rest, and ever since its release it has been a personal favorite of mine. (500) Days of Summer remains as my favorite movie starring Gordon-Levitt and one of my favorite movies of all time.

Before even looking at the chart one would be able to guess his highest grossing movies of all time. One could even say that the first two or three are easy to guess. The Dark Knight Rises has grossed over $443 million domestically and $1 billion worldwide. Inception and Lincoln fall into obviously second and third place respectively. Only time will tell if he is able to star in another film that will surpass The Dark Knight Rises to become his highest grossing film.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has 3 films release later this year (2015). Look out for The Walk releasing September 30th. It's the true story of Philippe Petits high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of NYC. On November 25th look for him to star along side Seth Rogan and Anthony Mackie in the Christmas Comedy The Night Before. Lastly, he will be starring as the infamous Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone's new film Snowden set to release on Christmas Day.
