Kate Bolduan: a Look at the Beautiful CNN News Broadcaster
Kate Bolduan of CNN (Cable News Network)
Introduction to the Beautiful Kate Bolduan
Of all the famous CNN news anchors and broadcasters, Kate Bolduan may not be one that gets enough attention. With the 2016 Presidential Election coming on November 8, 2016, Bolduan has been getting more airtime on CNN. I would like to dedicate this written piece to her. It will not be a straight forward biography of Kate, but rather the article will be about why she is so important in the context of American popular culture. Why should we even pay attention to Kate when there are so many other news broadcasters such as Erin Burnett, Brooke Baldwin, or Fredericka Whitfield? Before we get into these questions, let’s just say that Kate is a graduate of George Washington University, having received her degree in journalism. She graduated with honors, receiving the distinction of Phi Beta Kappa. Why is Kate Bolduan famous?

Kate Bolduan Shows Great Professionalism
Kate is famous for being one of the co-anchors of the program “At This Hour” with John Berman. She has worked with Chris Cuomo on the program New Day and the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. She isn’t afraid to ask the tough questions and that’s why some people may not like that. But as a news anchor, you have to be ready to ask the tough questions and the right questions while also not heavily favoring one side. It was just a few days ago on October 4, 2016 that Kate was with a panel of speakers. The subject was about the issue of Donald Trump’s taxes. It was in Virginia that Kate mentioned that it is rare for both candidates to talk about the same issue at the same time. After a clip of Hillary Clinton was shown when the Democratic presidential nominee brought up the fact that during the 1990’s Donald Trump lost a billion dollars due to bad investments and failed casinos, Clinton asked the question: “what kind of genius loses a billion dollars in a single year?” That’s a fair and legitimate question to ask. No one can say with a straight face that Mr. Trump is smart for not paying his taxes. I like how Kate was able to maintain her professionalism given what has just happened in the bizarre campaign of Donald Trump. We need more news people like Kate to bring up the issues in a fair manner and to ask the right questions. She laughed at Trump supporter Andre Bauer when he suggested that Donald Trump pays more in taxes than anyone else has in their entire lifetime. If that is the case, then why did Trump incur a $915 million dollar loss? Trump cannot be considered a good businessman but that’s a different topic for a different day.

Bolduan Challenges Trump Supporter Andre Bauer (big moment)
Kate asked Bauer “Do you really think that’s a winning argument?” I don’t think that Bauer has a winning argument. Bauer represents the typical Trump supporter who will stand by their candidate no matter what they say or do. We are in a very critical election year where the fate of this country is in the balance and Andre Bauer has the audacity to actually claim that Trump pays hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes! Clinton supporter Bakari Sellers revealed on CNN that Donald Trump incurred a 2% net operating loss and that this represents 2% of all the net operating losses in the US! CNN has actually done stories about Trump not even paying his employees.

Kate Bolduan and Her Importance to Pop Culture
In the debate spin room at Hofstra University on September 26, 2016, Bolduan asked Clinton supporter Hillary Rosen her thoughts on what the headlines would be following the first presidential debate. Rosen responded that Clinton would soar to new heights. On a related note, there is no way Donald Trump can compete on the same stage with a more experienced person but I appreciate Kate for even asking the question. Bolduan called that day “the biggest day of the campaign.” The first presidential debate was said to have been watched by over 80 million people. Not since the Reagan and Carter debate of 1980 had there been so many viewers.
Bolduan was a witness to one of the most watched events of our lifetime. Why is this important to pop culture? It is because we live in a time where politics and particularly election campaigns always attract audiences for two main reasons:
- Leisure Time- the working class of the United States demanded this and always asked for it.
- Humor-sometimes there is humor used in political discussions but Kate just gets straight down to the issues and asks legitimate questions.
Whether you can call this an act of bravery, courage, or just part of the job, Kate made the news in August 2016 when she reported the story of 5 year-old Omran Daqneesh, the 5 year-old boy in Aleppo, Syria whose home was bombed. You can see that she has become so filled with emotion, she is about to cry. But she famously said: ”there are no tears here.” The last line is the most memorable and it is as follows:
“This is Omran. He’s alive, we wanted you to know.”
More Reasons to Respect Kate Bolduan for her work
Kate Bolduan is such a brave person for even reporting such a story! These are the kinds of people that we need in our news networks! This story shows me that ALL lives matter. With the coverage generated by the death of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, we should also have compassion and caring for those children in Syria whose lives are at stake every day of the year. Yes, the loss of Jose is tragic but all lives matter. And Kate was there to cover this story and to show that even in not so good economic times, we do have things to be grateful for. Since 2011 when there has been civil war in Syria between government forces and the rebels, these children have no guarantee that they will even survive for another day. They have no guarantee that their parents will even be alive when and if these kids grow up to be adults. It is time that the world gave more credit to Kate Bolduan for her tough questions, sympathy, and no-biased covering of some of the most important issues of our time.
