Kid President
Ten-year-old Robby Novak is a normal American kid. He enjoys G.I. Joe, video games and riding his bike. But put him in a natty black suit with a red tie and place him in front of a camera and he becomes Kid President, a YouTube sensation. Kid President’s videos are inspiring, intelligent, amusing and joyously optimistic. Working in collaboration with the production company, Soul Pancake, Kid President releases videos on a weekly basis. Some have gone viral. The video "Pep Talk from Kid President to You” has over 27 million views as of this writing.
Novak has an expressive, emotional and cherubic face. His videos are well produced with great soundtracks. And Kid President loves to dance. The videos feature him dancing to the soundtrack and he is dedicated to his campaign to "make the world less boring”. His dance moves and facial expressions are reminiscent of Bill Cosby.
Kid President’s popularity is large and growing. He has made videos with stars like Josh Groban, Emma Stone, Steve Carrell and others. Last year he was introduced to President Barack Obama and one of his videos featured a tour of the Oval Office. He has assisted the President in promoting this year's Easter Egg hunt at the White House and he helped President Obama play an April fools joke on the White House press corps. In March 2013, he starred in a segment on ESPN where he broadcast his March Madness bracket.
In many of the Kid President’s videos, he urges his listeners to help others. Other kids have written to him with things they are doing to make the world a better place. He has promoted and helped many others like him. Another video is a poignant and funny tribute to all mothers.
But the best I’ve seen is the afore mentioned "Pep Talk from Kid President to You” (see below”). This clip is inspirational, and funny. He encourages his audience to “make the world more awesome”
Robby Novak is inspirational in another way. He suffers from the bone disease osteogenesis imperfecta. This disease is a chronic, lifelong malady that produces brittle bones. Robby has suffered 70 bone breaks in his life. In fact, several of his videos show him sporting casts. His older sister, Lexi, also suffers from the disease.
Kid President was originally a production of the Marketing Office of Freed-Hardeman University to promote their annual benefit dinner featuring Condeleeza Rice. Both his adoptive parents, Laurie and David Novak are employees of that school. Beginning in July of last year, he began to post weekly videos on You Tube. His productions are filmed and directed by his brother in law, Brad Montague.
Most of the comments below his YouTube videos are very positive, but there are occasionally negative things written about him. Several people have commented that since his clips are scripted, he is a tool of older people and the things he says really don’t come from his heart. One person commented that since his videos promote teamwork, sharing and togetherness, the commenter made the leap that Kid President is promoting socialism. Another commenter advised for people not to be taken in by this information because it was being said by a cute child.

Don't be in a party. Be a party.
I’m not naïve. I knew when I saw a video of his for the first time, that it was scripted and too well produced to be the work of a ten year old. The people who are reading more into this are missing the point. Kid President promotes ideals that are universally valued by all Americans, left and right wing. We try to instill these ideals into our children every day. Children are innocent and they have a lot of time to learn ideals like teamwork, love and sharing don’t always lead to success in the adult world. Kid President is saying precisely the things a ten year should say. And he is saying them in a way that is entertaining and amusing.
So click on the link below or go to Kid President’s web site or YouTube site and watch. You may enjoy it or you may not. Me, I have subscribed to his site and I’m going to watch his new clips as they come out. I don’t plan on reading anything into them, I’ll just enjoy them.
