Lady Gaga : Top 15 Things She Wants You To Know
Enigmatic, talented, mystifying, burlesque, grotesque, over-the-top, avant-garde, glam pop, shocking, surreal, marketing genius, singer-songwriter, dance music phenemenon.
Even if you haven't heard her music, you must have, by now, heard of Lady Gaga. She will have made sure of that, simply because she is a master of the art of fame. Based on the many interviews she has given, here are 15 things she wants you to know about her.
This Used To Be My Playground
Born Stefani Germanotta to Joseph and Cynthia Germanotta in March 1986. Her sister Natali, born in 1992, is six years younger. Stefani began piano and dance lessons at the age of 4. As a child she went to a catholic girls school, where she was teased and bullied. Later she dropped out of New York University Tisch School of the Arts intent on becoming a star.
Little Town Flirt
She used to waitress and flirted with everybody so she could get tips. Except it didn't work so good if they were on a date. the girl would look at her and say, (adopts a gritty, annoyed girlfriend with a angry voice) "Why are you looking at my man like that." It wasn't smart.
Around the time that she dropped out of university, she created the alter-ego Lady Gaga (Queen had a song called "Radio Gaga", thought to be the inspiration behind the name). By becoming Lady Gaga she was able to get rid of a lot of insecurities. Her preference is to be called Gaga, as opposed to Lady.
"People do still call me Stefani, but that's mainly in the bedroom."
The Ugly Duckling
She's very passionate about human and equal rights and very supportive of people who might feel disconnected, or feel like they don't belong; that they will never be great. This is probably due to the outcast treatment she got from bullies and other detractors when she was growing up.
"You have the gift to pull the superstar out of you that you are meant to be."
When Will I Be Famous
Gaga considers herself a performance artist and is extremely interested in the sociology of fame. She has studied the cause of the rise and fall of famous people and concludes that some of it is due to dishonesty. Lady Gaga, herself, tries to be totally honest with her fans.
Can You Hear Me
"Part of it is getting people to pay attention to what you want them to pay attention to and not to pay attention to what you don't want them to pay attention to."
"I try to maintain a certain privacy without feeling like I'm holding anything from my fans."
"The real Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga."
She feels people take her too serious and not seriously enough.
She beat the US president in the list of "most influential people of the decade", in Time magazine.
Wherever I Lay My Hat
She doesn't actually own a home. She rents a place in New York and all the rest of the time is spent in hotels.
Her songs are, predominantly, dance songs that are extremely catchy due to their smooth choruses. Unlike most instantly catchy tunes they don't wear off and become irritating, on the contrary, even after five years "Poker Face" still sounds like a fresh and exciting record.
I Write The Songs
Gaga is a classically trained pianist and writes or co-writes all her songs. Regarding the songs she writes she says:
It's inspirational like a dream. It's like a big rainbow across her brain. She does hear music all at once and in lots of different colours like a painting and when she finishes it she's just adding lots of colours.
She's not going to sugar-coat it. She drinks a lot of whisky and smokes weed when she writes, although she doesnt do it a lot.
Shock To The System
She thinks that people thinks she is more shocking than she thinks she is. Having said that she also dresses as a man, her other alter-ego; Jo Calderone.
"My music, my style, my fashion, there is nothing that I ever put on my body that I didn't understand where it came from. The reference of it, who inspired it. There is always a story or concept that I'm telling."
Lady Gaga seems to enjoy throwing the cat amongst the pigeons to the delight of the media.
She upset the entire country of Thailand by saying she wanted to shop for fake Rolex watches in Bangkok.
Angered Arabic fans with her "Shalom Israel" YouTube video.
Controversially urged fans to buy multiple copies of her single for a competition.
Had a vomit artist throw up on her whilst onstage. It was "..art in it's purest form..."
"I don't think it's cool to lip synch." she says "I don't judge, if everybody does because it's everybodys style, they've decided what type of artist they will be."
"I think if you've paid money for a ticket to see a show then the (-beep-) artist should have some pipe."
On a normal day she does the same as everyone. She visits her family, she goes to her dads' restaurant in New York. She has a new puppy and she'll play with her. It's name is Asia, a French bulldog. "She's like my little friend."
She doesn't relax by fly fishing, but did once eat the head of a Barbie doll onstage and once tore up a chat show hosts notes and ate them.
The egg or the vessel as she calls it is a place where she can meditate and experience rebirth. She feels like you can be reborn over and over and over again, until you can find the part of you that is the best that you can be, so she encourages everyone to do it.
