Wendy Williams has been away from The Wendy Williams Show since December 24, 2018. She has delayed her return three times this year. There have been reruns and panels of guest celebrities carrying on her show.

There were solo guest hosts during the week of February 4, and replacements are scheduled through February 15, 2019

The reason given for Wendy's long absence has been because of her hospitalization due to complications related to Graves' disease and a fractured shoulder.

Because Wendy has been absent over 55 days and because she keeps changing the date of her return, there are several rumors surrounding her and her show.

Several Rumors

There are several rumors concerning Wendy Williams and her daytime talk show.

Rumor
A rumor is that Wendy is afraid of losing her show, according to Page Six. She used to be confident that she is irreplaceable and no one can do what she does. After seeing the success of her replacements, the talk show host is reported to be nervous she may lose her show if she doesn't return soon.

Rumor

Nick Cannon did so well when he replaced her as host that there is a rumor that Wendy's staff wants him as a permanent replacement.

Even though Cannon had a good time, he is too busy with his own agenda to replace Williams. He had only a three-day assignment because he had to go to Dubai to film a show. He is super busy with his own things. He is gearing up for his own late night show coming up on FOX.

Rumor

According to Radar Online, talk show host Steve Harvey is a "cutthroat" because he is ready to take advantage of Wendy while she is out on medical leave. Harvey is eyeing her time slot on FOX because NBC is pulling his show to make room for Kelly Clarkson's new show.

Rumor
Even though Wendy is out sick and taking care of her health, some people believe there is more to the story. They say she is having marital problems that are also taking a toll on her health.

Some time ago, Williams addressed the cheating allegations about her husband Kevin Hunter only once on her show. She made it clear that it was not a topic open for further discussion. It is being claimed that for the past ten years Hunter has been living a double life and fathered a child with Sharina Hudson, a young massage therapist while still married to Wendy.

No one knows if there is validity to any of the rumors. What Wendy watchers know for sure is that she has been absent for a long time, and there is no date when she will return. Even so, the show is in good hands.

Timeline of Wendy's Absences

October 2017

The 54-year-old talk show host first made headlines following a health crisis in October 2017. She fainted on live television during a Halloween episode. Williams later explained that her Statue of Liberty costume was very heavy and she became dehydrated and overheated.

February 2018

Less than a year later, the outspoken host canceled three shows in February 2018. Williams announced on February 21, 2018, that her doctor had ordered her to take three weeks off because of Graves' disease.

The tell-it-like-it-is talk show host said previously that she would never allow her show to have a guest host. After two weeks of reruns, actor Jerry O'Connell served as a guest host for one week. Williams returned on March 19 to the purple chair to host her show after the three weeks were over.

December 2018

Williams was feeling up to hosting her show until December 17, 2018. She missed a taping of her popular talk show. She returned the next day with her right arm in a sling. She revealed that she had suffered a bone fracture.

Then on December 20, she slurred her words. She apologized to her studio audience and viewers that she was on medication for the shoulder fracture.

January 2019

Following a scheduled two-week vacation over the Christmas and New Year holidays, Williams announced on January 3 that she would return on January 7. Reruns were aired for the first week of 2019.

Two days after confirming her return, Williams announced she would be back on her show on January 14. However, when the double doors opened, Wendy wasn't there. Instead, a panel of four celebrities was announced. This happened for an entire week from January 14 through January 18. She was set to appear on the show for the first time in 2019 on January 21.

February 2019

Wendy was absence from her show the entire month of January. Guest hosts were announced to fill in for her through February 15.

Nick Cannon filled in as Williams’ temporary host on Monday through Wednesday, February 4-6. Jason Biggs was the replacement host on Thursday, February 7, and Keke Palmer was the guest host on Friday, February 8. All of them were excellent replacements. They kept the show flowing and the audience excited.

Keke did something that Wendy doesn't do. She changed her outfits and wore three different ones during the hour-long show. She also did something that Wendy doesn't allow. During the advice section, she allowed an audience member to take the Wendy microphone. However, that was the only faux pas that Keke made.

Another lineup of guest hosts during the week of February include Sherri Shepherd on February 11 and February 12, Michael Rapaport on February 13, and Jerry O'Connell will return on February 14 and February 15. He hosted before for a week when Wendy was on sick leave in March 2018.

Margaret.....Very informative article on Wendy and her recent status and past situations. I have not seen her show in quite some time and was unaware of her absence, all the guest hosts and other current gossip. I certainly wish her well and hope she returns to a healthy state of being.

I'm not actually a great fan. I surely don't believe Wendy or her show are any more superior to several other talk shows and their popular hosts. What I feel is vital for all TV personalities to realize is that no one is irreplaceable and that if nothing else, the viewing public is subject to being fickle, Replacements are often welcomed and accepted with little complaint.......often these replacements become preferred!

Bottom line....although egos run rampant in show business, they would all be wise to stay off that "High Horse." Horses have been known to buck! Peace, Paula.
