Layden Robinson:: Give The Gift of "Music Meets Emotion":: This Holiday Season
Meet Layden Robinson
Sometimes a bad day turns out good, as mine did today because I "met" Layden Robinson. For those of you who know me, you know I like to introduce you to things or people you may not have heard of before. For those of you who've stumbled upon this page, you are in for a real treat. Not only do I bring you the Acoustic soul of "Music Meets Emotion" by Layden Robinson, but he has also agreed to an interview.
This is my first interview, and so a milestone in my writing career. I hope that for Layden Robinson his new release will be but one of many milestones.
Faybe Bay: When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
Layden Robinson: When I was 15 and half. A late bloomer. My Dad was a piano Man and I decided I wanted to play Music so I picked guitar. I was so hooked and given a vintage Les Paul Custom by a dear friend of my Dad's. WHAT A START! :)
FB: That's a great start! You must have felt like a rock star right off the bat! How long have you been writing your own songs?
LR: WOW, over 20 years. :)
FB: Does being in Boston hinder or help your progress?
LR: I think it helps my progress, but it is all on the individual to dig deep and make things happen no matter where you are!
FB: What venues have you played in your area?
LR: You know, it has been quite a long time since i have gigged, being that my main concentration has been recording and self promoting on The Web. But every moment is a new moment, and things may change and i may start gigging more very soon!
FB: It seems you've released several albums. How does Music Meets Emotion differ from your other work?
LR: It is definitely the best songwriting and best Produced out of the three albums. (Much thanks to Jason Southard.) A lot more focus and clarity than the first 2 albums as well.
FB: I found Verse available on Amazon as well as Music Meets Emotion. Are your other releases available anywhere?
LR: Yes, My first album " Adversity" is also available at Amazon Music, ITunes, Napster, And Rhapsody. (Note: click the Napster Link, then Albums and scroll down. FB)
FB: You've written some 40 songs. What drives your music?
LR: Life' s journey, emotion, Victory, defeat, Joy and heartache.
FB: "Deepness" is so different from the other songs I've heard. What triggered the writing of that song?
LR: I am a huge "Tool" fan and I wanted to write something heavier than most of my other material for diversity sake, but also to catch people off guard. Used to open with that tune back in the day and people really didn't know what to think! LOL.
FB: I played roadie for my brother's band as a kid. Every once in awhile there would be a show that made us go "WOW, they really liked us!" Where have you seen the biggest response to your music?
LR: I think it is little by little and not one specific show sticks out.
FB: On your my space blog you've mentioned a Summer tour. How are the plans for the Hippie Bus coming along?
LR: Would love to do a Summer tour but need to work out my finances, and as far as the Hippie bus. They run alot more expensive than I thought! CAN YOU SAY COUCHSURFING!
FB: I'm not one to miss an obvious reference. In the movie Meet The Robinsons, a child gets the chance to see the future. If you could travel through time, what would you say to a young Layden Robinson, when he was just starting out?
LR: " Never take no for any answer and never get discouraged. Always dig deep and keep moving forward no matter how difficult things become."
FB: That's truly great advice for all of us! You are probably one of only three artists I've ever heard who encourages Piracy. I just want to be accurate here. The most important thing is to get your music into as many hands as possible. So when people buy your MP3 this holiday season, is it okay if they burn a bunch of CDs and hand them out as gifts to their friends?
LR: HA HA! If people are totally busted this Holdiay season, sure go ahead. But I do prefer people to actually purchase the Music! :)
