Letter to a celebrity: Tips and advice for celebrities from a commoner
Letter to a celebrity
You often complain about paparazzi mobbing you, tabloids judging you and the obvious lack of privacy in your life and the many more demons and disadvantages of being a celebrity. This letter has some down to earth advice that you can implement in your life if you really want to learn how to be a lovable celebrity. Penned down are 10 things that celebrities should know – Here's a commoner's humble attempt at reminding you, it is okay to be human.
1) Stop overdressing – Be seen in simple clothes too
We know that you are a celebrity and can afford those expensive clothes, jewelry, handbags, purses and a lot more. But have you thought even once before wearing the skimpiest of outfits like a mini skirt, uber high heels, kilos of makeup and a hairdo that of an alien while going grocery shopping or simply for a walk to the local shops? If you think that your cool and expensive clothes are going to make you stand out from the crowd, you are right. They will make you stand out but you will also draw the irk of bystanders and the tabloids will bash you left, right and center for dressing like a fool while doing daily chores. As surprising as this may sound to you, it is okay to be seen in simple clothes and without makeup at times!
2) Stop lying – All your actions are generally caught on camera
Whether it is the wild night you had at the clubs or the way you treat people who service you, all your actions are generally photographed or taped by the paparazzi or bystanders with the cell phones. So when you lie about your actions or behavior in an interview, you look like a fool. As this letter to you, my dear celebrity, is all about giving down to earth advice, be advised that commoners love celebrities who are honest and speak their hearts out. It is okay to be caught on camera doing something as silly as picking your nose – we all have our quirky moments. If you are going to treat your entire life as an act, we might as well start hating you for all the lies and the humbug.
3) Be proud of the wild times you've had
To be honest if each and every person on the earth were given millions of dollars, the world would turn into one big party house. We all know that celebrities are super rich and the money flows like water. So it is only understandable that you feel like blowing a few thousand dollars every now and then on drinks, entertainers and other pleasures of life. So don't feel guilty or deny the wild times you had the previous night. After all, if we had the millions, we too would love to do some self indulgence.
4) Only donate to a charity or a cause you are passionate about
Donating to a good cause is awesome. But dear celebrity, do you know what's more awesome? Donating to a charity or cause that you are really passionate about triumphs over simply donating because you think it'll look good. We love celebrities like Bono who passionately donate and put in efforts to do their bit to change the world. On the other hand, and we're not going to sling names here, but we hate celebrities who donate simply because they can tweet about it or talk about it in their next promotional interview.
5) Have commoners as friends or simply interact with regular people more often
Do you know what we commoners think when we see a celebrity out in town with average and normal people? We adore them because we can genuinely connect to them if they have common people as friends. If you are going to be seen with pals who only drive Ferraris and Lamborghinis, we may think that you are too uptight to interact with the common public. You can increase your interaction with the regular folks by simply being more active on Twitter or maybe even taking a walk down the park and chatting up with random bystanders.
6) Don't hide your habits and hobbies
If you are a celebrity and are trying to hide lifelong habits and hobbies, don't bother. In this day and age of technology and cell phone cameras and considering that you have a public life, it is going to be difficult if not impossible to sustain your habit in hiding for too long. If you have bad habits of smoking excessively, drinking too much or doing drugs, don't hide it. Rather, put in efforts to fight the bad habits. Some celebrities also try to hide their hobbies, thinking that the commoners and media in general may ridicule them. Really? Well, unless you have absolutely weird hobbies or those that are considered taboo, there is really no reason to hide them. We all have our idiosyncrasies – it is okay to be human.
7) We like you for what you are – Not for what you can be
The world style adores Marilyn Monroe because she lived life to the fullest, doing what she loved doing and being what she was. How do you think she would have been remembered had she tried to fight against her own personality and led us to believe that she was a simple and sober girl? Similarly, the whole world is gaga about Lady Gaga because of her weird style, eccentric music videos and a personality that is hard to relate to. Would we have had the same kind of appreciation for her if she forcefully tried to belt out country music? Maybe not.
8) Live a life that people can take inspiration from to better their own
Have you thought how many millions of lives you are affecting on a daily basis? Children and adults alike draw inspiration from your life and try to imitate your behavior and lifestyle. If you've made your millions and attained fame by struggling, working hard and coming up from the streets, that's great. Tell us all about it. Always remember that every word you speak and every move you make is going to affect the life of some individual in some part of the world. Lead a life that others can take inspiration from and do your own bit for the society and world in general.
9) Keep in touch with your roots – Your family
One thing that is certain to attract admiration and goodwill from the general public and the media is when celebrities genuinely keep in touch with their families. Recently a famous soccer player and his wife attend the birthday party of the former's relative and indulged in some quality family time. The reason why things like this will make you stand out as a lovable celebrity is because we like people who are still connected to their roots despite achieving fame and success.
10) Don't boast about how much money you make
Only recently a celebrity tweeted about how many million dollars she was raking in every year. How do you think that would make commoners feel? It is good to be proud of what you achieve, but we really don't think you should brag about how much you earn. You are a celebrity for your talents, not for how much money you can make.
