Logic vs. Joyner Lucas
How it all started...
This beef started back in 2006 when Tech N9ne, popular producer and rapper, teamed up with Logic to record what would later on be called Sriracha. After six months of waiting for his verse, Joyner Lucas decided to donate his own verse. Logic wasn't too happy about this and finally decided to freestyle his verse but he ended up disappointing Joyner and Tech N9ne by creating lazy lyrics.
A few years later, Joyner discussed his idea of using a phone number as a title for a song to Logic's manager Chris Zarou (assumed). Later, he found out that Logic released a song using the same idea (1-800-273-8255 on Logic's 3rd album Everybody) but he wasn't upset because of that...he was upset because he managed to make more money than his album (508)-507-8255.
Eventually, Joyner made a diss track called "Mask On", a remix to "Mask Off" by Future, where he attacks Logic's lyricism and work ethic. Logic was quiet for a bit but eventually fought back with "Yuck" on his mixtape Bobby Tarantino II. The only thing that Joyner could do now was take to twitter, telling Logic to "Say some names next time." Joyner took aim at Logic with "Look Alive (Remix)," originally by BlocBoy JB and Drake.
My opinion
I initially thought that the beef between them was stupid but after reading news articles and watching interviews I understood where both of them are coming from. If I found out that someone could be taking my place in participating in something that could give me money I would be pissed too. And if I found out that someone was stealing my idea and making more money off of it that I am, I would be double pissed. The only thing that I'm not really surprised about is the fact that Logic pretty much stole an idea from Joyner. Stuff like that happens all of the time in the entertainment industry. Am I saying it's okay to do these things? No, but I don't think that Joyner should start online arguments because of that.
In reality, I believe that Logic will be better in terms of popularity and sales but in terms of being perfect every time a song or album comes out, Joyner takes the cake (except for We're Tired).
At the end of the day, though, both of them are very talented rappers and both of them are making money.
