LolCats: Why Does The Internet Love Them?

Updated on September 5, 2011

Lolcats. You know you have received some from your family members, or been the sender. Heck, you may have even created one or two. But what is it about cats that the internet loves?

The term “Lolcat” was first used on 4Chan.com, in June 2006, and the website Lolcats.com was registered on June 14th. Since then, people have been passing around pictures of cats online, whether they have been lol-ified or not. But lets go back to the beginning.

When it started, some cats were put on watch duty, to keep an eye on us, and study what we were doing.

First, we would post pictures of cute cats, and that is it.

And the watch became lax, and lazy

When they saw what it turned into, the cat communtity were horrified.

Not all cats were onboard.

Fights were had.

Drinks were drank.

Mistakes were made (mostly because of the drinks. Drink Responsibly ©)

Most of the cat community wants this meme to stop, but unfortunately for them, it is here to stay.

But my message to the cat community (Catmunity) is one of peace, love, and understanding. We are not making fun of you, all of these come from a place of love.

We all wish, that one day, you too can has cheezburger.
