Looking for Werewolves? Bitten: The Final Season Delivers.
Bitten: The Final Season
Vampires, Zombies, and Werewolves (Oh My)
Most of the literary world is in love with vampires (True Blood, Let the Right One In) and zombies (Walking Dead, Dawn of the Dead), but not so much over werewolves (oh my!). To be sure there are Werewolves in the media (Wolfen, Werewolves of London, Hemlock Grove). There are more of all three, but today, we are here to talk about Bitten which is about to drop a DVD of the third and final season of the show (July 19). If you have seen the show you already know that it is smart and sexy and well worth your time to watch; if you haven’t seen it yet, well, you totally should. Personally, we feel it necessary to point out that we are big fans of werewolves.

Bitten: The Final Season
The TV show is based on the Otherworld novels by New York Times best-selling author Kelley Armstrong. The show stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, V, Haven) as Elena Michaels, the world’s only female werewolf, who has evolved over the three seasons into a ferocious leader of the Stonehaven pack of wolves. This third (and final season) picks up several months after the harrowing battle at the conclusion of the second season. The Stonehaven pack has been reinforcing its ranks in the wake of that carnage, and is now on the hunt for the Russian Alpha and his pack in order to bring a conclusion to this decades-old vendetta. Meanwhile, Elena struggles with her own pack’s Alpha, Jeremy Danvers (Bryk) and his new draconian leadership approach.

We Love Werewolves
Speaking for ourself we are not so much a big fan of the significant re-writing of iconic mythological characters (I was not a big fan of the Twilight because it so totally trashed, twisted, and corrupted the mythology of both vampires and werewolves). However, having said that, here (and to be completely aboveboard, we hadn’t seen any episodes of this program prior to watching this DVD set, but we became a fan upon viewing the first couple of episodes). We think you will too. Here, one of the core premises of the series is that only men are werewolves, while another is that they can morph upon command, and don’t have to wait for the appearance of the full moon.
Howling at the Moon
What we get here with this very engaging series, is a group of people, a great big dysfunctional family that, occasionally turn into wolves, and — quite often — settle disputes by killing each other. Personally, we would have preferred seeing more wolves onscreen, but we do understand why much of the on-screen interaction and conflict was between the wolves in their human forms. This series gives us compelling, dramatic performances by a top-flight team of very watchable actors, telling us a richly-layered story that is well worth watching.
The Bitten: The Final Season DVD is a three-disc set that features unedited versions of all of the 10 episodes of the final season as well as several extras including a featurette that gives viewers a Look into the final season. Other bonus features include Deleted and extended Scenes.
