Lucky Star Review

Updated on October 31, 2011

Have you ever wondered which way is the correct way to eat a chocolate cornet? This question, and many other similar questions, are asked and some what answered in the show Lucky Star. Lucky Star is a show about a group of high schools girls and their teacher going about their day to day lives. Yes, this show sounds extremely similar to Azumanga Daioh!, and they are. There are enough differences between the shows to make them both worth watching though. So please don’t avoid Lucky Star by assuming that it will be exactly like Azumanga Daioh, because you will be missing a great comedy series.

The art style is very nice. It is a chibier style anime. This just makes the characters cuter and allows funnier facial expressions. So if chibi isn’t really your style, you might not want to watch this series. The character designs are very good also. I like the way each character looks; I feel that their design fits their personalities well.

The voice acting is good. I watched it in japanese, so i can’t say if the english voice acting was good or not. I saw it at a friends house, and they had picked up the DVD’s in japan. They had comical voices that you could actually suspect some people to sound like in day to day life.

So, there isn’t really a story to this show. They talk about many random things. They might go look for a manga, or they may go to a festival. Each episode is just something different.  So if you like a linear plot with a point to it, you might as well not watch this show. They also do very random, and sometimes silly things.

I really like the characters in this show, and there are a good bunch of them. The main four girls are Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki. There is also Kuroi Sensi (their teacher), Yutaka, Minato, Patricia, Hiyori, Ayano, and Misao. They each have different personalities and are all great characters. Some of them don’t come in until about midway through the series, because they are just starting their freshman year.

Now it’s time to talk about Lucky Channel. Lucky Channel is a segment at the end of every episode of Luck Star. It stars Akira Kogami and Minoru Shiraishi. These two start off alright, but grow to hate each other. The way there characters interact is hysterical. The show is supposed to talk about the characters of Lucky Star and random information about the show, but they usually get sidetracked and get off topic.

Overall, Lucky Star is a great show. It is a great comedy with great characters and a length of only 24 episodes, so it isn’t a very long series. All in all, I found Lucky star to be a very enjoyable series, so you should definitely watch it.

Heh I love Animes that does that. Reminds me a lot of some Animes, can't think of the names right now that do that even though a lot of Animes has been doing that-making fun of others lately lolz.

You should its pretty entertaining! It definately is only for anime fans since they just keep making jokes based on other animes. Well the japanese version does at least. Thats how I watched it anyway.

To each their own. I think the style of show is more of an acquired taste, and I know a lot of people who really enjoy it. Either way, it's a very unique genre and always enjoyable.

thanks for the comment. I haven't read the LS manga. I have read the Azumanga Daioh manga though, I think I like the Azumanga Show better, but its been a while since I've read it

You are correct. There are enough differences between Lucky Star and Azumanga Diaoh to go around. Personally, i can't stand the LS Manga, but love the show, while with Azumanga Diaoh it's the other way around! Great Hub!
