Monkey D Luffy VS Kurosaki Ichigo

Updated on September 5, 2012

Prelude:

The Straw hat pirates needed some supplies to continue their journey in the Grand Line. They managed to reach an odd city. This city is known for its unfolded mysteries regarding time-travel. It has been said that beneath the city lies a research project that was abandoned long time ago. It was intended to provide answers and solutions which is expected to be the stepping stone towards achieving time-travel technology.  The adventurous nature of Luffy lead him in discovering an entrance to an unexplored tunnel. He was so excited about it which made him cared less about informing his crew on what he is up to. The tunnel lead him to an underground science facility. He unveiled the city's secret but accidentally pushed a lever which made everything operate and he instantly find himself in a very weird place. The buildings are extremely tall and he never seen something like it before. Nonetheless, Luffy was more surprised to find a blond guy in front of him asking what his intentions are. Luffy was very confused as to what is happening and really needs some time to think of it but the blond guy suddenly attacked him with a ferocious slash. He is Kurosaki Ichigo and the most awaited battle between the two most loved heroes has begun.

Monkey D. Luffy

Occupation: Pirate; Captain

Affiliations:

Dadan family (former) , Straw Hat pirates

Age: 19

Birthday: May 5th

Height: 172 cm

Famous quote:

" I am the man who will become the Pirate King! "

Strength: Luffy is not the strongest pirate in terms of physical strength. However, his main power lies on how he can influence others to be with him to accomplish a certain goal. He also stands up for what he believe is right and gets stronger if his friends are threatened. If you want to mess with this guy, be sure not to involve his friends or he will surely beat you up!

Weakness: Like any other pirate who ate a devil fruit, Luffy, can't swim. He would drown underwater so the best way to defeat him is by throwing him into the sea. The fact that he gets easily affected by his friend's condition is also a weakness. He tends to make careless decisions if his friends are in great danger.

Fighting Techniques:

He has a wide array of attacks but all of them are mainly concentrated on hi rubber-like ability. His attacks include "Jet Pistol" where he stretches one of this hand to gain momentum and punches the opponent with it. " Bazooka" is one of his favorite techniques were he stretches and punches using both of his hands.

Kurosaki Ichigo

Occupation: Student/ Substitute Shinigami

Affiliations:

None

Age: 17

Birthday: July 15th

Height: 174 cm

Famous quote:

"Stay alive, no matter what occurs...I will find you."

Strength: Ichigo is famed for his hollow form. He is only a substitute Shinigami but his power is at par with those of a Captain class or even more. His Bankai form allows him to move so fast that even the fastest Shingamis can't keep up. He can also fire a heavy black force from his sword as he slashes it in air, a technique he calls Getsuga Tensho. Nonetheless, the main source of strength of this peculiar Shinigami is his power to unleash the Hollow in him and use its power to aid in battle. His so called hollow form varies in intensity which can be recognized on the shape of his hollow mask. This transformation provides him a huge amount of boost in terms of speed and power. In fact, it is a common sight for him to be consumed by the power as the Hollow inside him gains control, giving him tremendous evil power that even the bravest ins the Shinigami world fears.

Weakness: The only weakness that Ichigo has is the fact that there are some situation where the Hollow inside him overwhelms his will and gain control. Although it often leads to victory against his much stronger foes, his friends are also left in danger knowing that he is unaware of what he is doing.

Fighting Techniques:

The only special technique Ichigo uses is "Getsuga Tensho" where he slashes the air with tremendous power creating a wave forceful enough create a crater along its path. However, the intensity of this technique varies as it greatly increases if he is on his Hollow form. All in all, he rely on speed in every battle as long as his will to never give up and protect his friends no matter what it takes.

THE BATTLE

Ichigo started the clash with his famous "Getsuga Tensho" and caught Luffy off-guard. Luffy failed to dodge and took a direct hit. However, his rubber-like body saved him from taking too much damage from the attack. Ichigo rushed towards him to give the finishing blow but Luffy fought back with a fury of punches which gave Ichigo no option but to dodge. Luffy's punches continue to rain as Ichigo avoided them one after another. Ichigo finally was caught by a single blow as he missed a turn and was instantly smashed on the wall. Luffy extended his rubber arm backwards as he gets ready to use his "Jet Pistol" but Ichigo got away from the pile of debris and attacked Luffy with his Bankai form. There was no time for Luffy to throw his attack and he went flying again as the forceful slash of Ichigos zanpakouto caught him. Ichigo asked Luffy if he had enough but as we all know, he won't back down on a very skillful enemy that is why he rushed an attack with his "Bazooka". Ichigo was the one left off guarded this time and went off flying into the opposite direction, leaving his sword. However, the battle has just begun as Ichigo picked his sword in a spit second and started using his hollow form. Luffy increased his ability as well and used "Second Gear". With both of their speed and power increased, the battle went on until exhaustion lead them to a battle of will. Before something drastic happened, Zorro ( Straw Hat's Swordsman) interfered as well as Kuchiki Byakuya (Member of the 13 Protection Squad Captain) and ended the fight. In the end, both were satisfied that it was just a plain misunderstanding. The two forces of good eventually realize that they are on the same side.

Ichigo really needs one big upgrade since he's always fighting the big bosses and powerful Characters (Kenpachi, Byakuya, Grimjaw, Ulquijora, Aizen etc) so the power evolution for him is really fast. But regarding the current status of both Protagonist, Ichigo is way much stronger now. If you want to luffy to win maybe you can compare them again next year. Probably luffy will be stronger that time. :)

Lol. All I have to say is they messed up Ichigo's character. They made him too strong too fast. Luffy is well planned out in terms of strength, so he'll only get stronger. Ichigo NEEDED a downgrade. That's why he was poorly planned, as was the entire Bleach series.

Well.... as the bleach manga is continuing I'm doubting the statement that luffy will ever "come back" with something big..... as Ichigo is rising VERY quickly in power atm, his new shikai is more than twice as strong as his old bankai, and that's not including the quincy powers he has.(spoilers)

I'd agree that Ichigo would win only because Luffy and his crew have just entered the New World so there isn't enough feats to say that Luffy could beat Ichigo. But, I think Luffy would probably come back with something big that would make him stronger than Ichigo.

There is no way in hell that Luffy could stand a chance against Ichigo. And before anyone starts accusing me of favoritism, I enjoy One Piece and Bleach equally. That being said, let's go into this battle shall we?

First off, SPEED. I don't how anyone could ever think that Ichigo would lose in a battle of speed when the guy traveled from like downtown Karakura Town and all the way to the outskirts of the city near a canyon in less than 5 seconds. Luffy may be formiddable in Gear Second, but the guy isn't fast enough to go toe-to-toe with him especially since even the Pacifista could keep up Luffy's speed.

ENDURANCE. Oooh, I like this. Both of these guys have proved time and time again they can take a beating, get their ass handed again, and still recover in time for the next episode. Again, I am going with Ichigo simply because (SPOILER ALERT) Aizen's final form with the hogyoku still couldn't even put a dent on the guy. He took point blank explosions from all sides and just stared at Aizen with a "dat all u gawt?" look. Luffy may have survived Magellan's toxic poison, Crocodile's moisture absorption (twice), and several high ranked opponents at the Whitebeard War. But his feats are simply nothing to boast about when juxtaposed with endurance and durability that Ichigo possesses.

STRENGTH. Ugh, I don't like this one. Ok, honestly, I do have a preference for Bleach since I was a huge fan of it but it just seems logical for Ichigo to win. But, I still gotta clarify for all the idiots who don't know anything about these two.

For Luffy, I can acknowledge his immense strength and power especially after the timeskip. The fact he could injure the Kraken with a single punch, albeit it was Gear Third enhanced with Haki, just proves how much of a monster this future Pirate King is. BUT Ichigo, on the other hand, has proven his reputation in the strength department more than once. But since I'm losing your patience, let me just give an example. In the battle between Aizen and Ichigo, our carrot top protagonist fought an entity was that supposedly in a higher state of being than everyone else. The fight had some badass scenes of Ichigo effortlessly blocking all of Aizen's attacks, all of which destroy the mountains around them. Of course Ichigo disproved Aizen's strength when he totally kicks his ass after revealing he was the one cutting the mountains to shreds. Overall, even a One Piece fan has to accept defeat in this scenario as the Bleach Universe simply has much more powerful characters than those of OP. Though, I have to say that any of the Admirals could probably defeat Ichigo.

Even without a Bankai, Ichigo has flash step. There's no way Luffy would ever lay a hand on him except by surprise. And even then, Luffy lacks the raw force necessary to bring Ichigo down. Ichigo has gone toe to toe with some of the strongest in Bleach and often wins. He faced Kenpachi, a man legendary for his brute strength, and he won. He is able to match Byakuya for speed, and his ability to analyze his enemies abilities is nearly on par with Shunsui. The only Soul Reaper who could probably destroy him outright (which is, without too much trouble) is Head Captain Yamamoto.

The power scales for both shows are just far too different. Characters in Bleach possess massive levels of destructive ability, that's simply not the case in One Piece.
