MTV Is Over

Updated on July 27, 2012

The channel MTV is still here, but the music videos are not. So, it seems like MTV is really gone. When I was a teenager, MTV was a very popular ( OK, the most popular ) channel that teenagers watched. Looking at it now, just makes people my age want to turn it off. Why is it even called MTV? Where is the music. Thinking about it made me start thinking about the videos that used to be shown twenty four hours per day. Some of them were wonderful, some were not. The first one was " Video Killed The Radio Star"

There were so many that were fantastic in those days. Another one was "I Want My MTV" not that I want it anymore. But, this one was very good.

There are a lot of videos I could add. But, that would take too much time to just sit and watch a hub, but there is one more, that was popular. This one was fantastic! Guns N' Roses " Welcome To The Jungle"

OK, not going to add more videos, making a hub too long is not a wonderful thing. But, these are the things MTV does not show anymore. It really is too bad. It is a part of being a teenager that is gone. Just wondering what were your favorite videos on MTV?

      Hi Michele , I hope you are well, we care you know!..This will age me but I remember a transister radio under my pillow , fading in and out at night as a young boy learned what music really was .And putting the batteries near the stove at night to recharge them a little . The stations too, with little reception , would fade in and out .....Magic!.....:-}

      Well being much older, MTV was mainly my kids thing which I constantly had to monitor although being a musician and old rocker, I loved the concept of 24 hour Music videos and often watched with them. Too bad MTV has evolved or "devolved' to where it is now. Good job. Voted UP and interesting. Lee

      I just can't remember all the names of songs. That is why I would rather have MTV the way it used to be. Then I could also find new ones.

      Michiganman567 you are right about that. It is too bad that they became what they are today. Very different.

      MTV made the rock stars, now they are much harder to find in a sea of Youtube videos. MTV took the words "music television" off of their logo a couple years ago. I guess that they were admitting what we all already knew. 5 kids and a TV camera makes for some cheap TV.

      Irob, Wow, that is too late for me, no wonder I didn't know they still did not have music videos. I also love ZZ top, Cars. My favorites were from the late 70's-90's I wish I could go on and on, but after the brain surgery, I remember part of the song, so it is hard to look up the title. that is why I can't find it on YouTube. Thanks for your comment.

      Oh they have music videos still, like 3 am-6 am and it is nothing but rap, no diversity. I live the old Sex, drus, rock and roll and sometimes car videos from the 80's. My favs are the ZZ Top videos from Eliminator, girls, car, key.

      MTV Just has regular tv shows like every other station now.

      On YouTube you have to type in what you want to see. But, on the Old MTV you would have been able to see new videos and learn about them. That was what I liked about the old MTV

      I haven't heard much on MTV but then I never really watched the show. MTV videos have come a long way since that first video. Like, EclecticFusion, there's so much on youtube that you can catch for a trip down memory lane. It would be interesting to see what the most popular shows are now adays that have similar content to MTV.

      Oh, I loved those too! One of the reason I wrote this is so people could remind me, and I could find them on YouTube. MTV should really change it's name now.

      I used to love MTV back when they actually had music videos! I am so glad that I can go to YouTube and see some of the oldies! Thanks for a trip down memory lane!

      P.S. Some of my favorite videos were "Take On Me" by A-Ha, "Pictures Of You" by The Cure, and "Lessons In Love" by Level 42. I could go on and on and on...
