Marilyn Monroe Lives on in her Impersonators

The Legend
The Legend

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe died decades back, yet she lives in the dreams and imagination of men. Many actresses and women have tried to duplicate her life. This was in response to the inherent desire of men to know more about Marilyn Monroe. Her small acts have fascinated the present generation, leading to a creation of the legend of Marilyn Monroe. People want to know about her IQ, her loves and how she lived. Her calendar photos sell even now and adorn many a living room. Marilyn Monroe has left behind an endearing image as an American beauty and sex symbol. Her films when watched in a re-run bring out the incandescent appeal of the actress. It’s a pity she passed away so young.

Suicide and a Icon

This fetish for La Monroe had spawned a desire for many to be like her. Earlier there was Jayne Mansfield, who was supposed to be a close look alike to her. Jayne Mansfield had a similar crop of golden hair and was white as snow with lovely legs, but again Monroe was a cut above and Jayne Mansfield has gone, but Monroe lives on. The police surmise that she committed suicide, but there are any numbers of conspiracy theories floating around. This is natural, for Marilyn Monroe was something out of the ordinary.

Now we have an actress named Erika Smith who has appeared on the scene. She is the latest impersonator of the legend. Out of the crop of actresses, she I suppose is the leading contender. One has to grant the fact that she does have an uncanny resemblance to Marilyn. She breathes heavily and has a slur and has a show-stopping presence on the stage. In interviews, she has exuded the aura of Marilyn and that is not a small thing. She has the confidence as well and that is a feather in her cap.

Erica has featured in 4 films which revolve around Marilyn and critics feel she did a good job. The films in which she starred are “The Three Chris’s” (2009), “Before The Dust Settles” (2011), “Marilyn Monroe In New York” (2012), “Lady Peacock” (2014).She has also starred in a documentary on La Monroe titled “Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s”( 2013)

Apart from films, Erica has hogged the TV and stage with her presence as the impersonator of Marilyn Monroe. As on date, her ratings are good and that again shows that Monroe remains in the psyche of the public. Erica was the star performer as Monroe in CBS “the Couch” which hit the screen in 2012. She also acted in “Running Late with Scott Rogowsky” (2013), TruTV’s “Impractical Jokers” (2014), and stars as Monroe in the sitcom pilot “Celebrities to Go!” (2014).

Erica has also played Marilyn on stage. There also she has done well. She was the star Marilyn in “From Here It’s To The Top “and “Dozen Divas”. Christian Dior has a new Ad Campaign for one of their products and Erica is the voice of Marilyn, whose images are used for the ad.

Erica was born in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to New York at the age of 18.She was addicted to the stage and glamor world and started her career in B- grade and some nude films. This can’t be held against her as she has brought Marilyn alive on the screen.

Last Word

Erica is famous as the impersonator of Marilyn, but though she has acted in other films and plays, the public accepts her as the impersonator of Marilyn and thus allows the legend to have a prolonged life. In fact such shows and films and TV interviews add to the luster of Marilyn Monroe as a greater than life woman. A legend yes, but to many a goddess.

With Erica acting as Monroe, just about shows the hold Marilyn has on the male psyche in the world, who are still hung up on body and her legs. What a girl.!

Interesting hub. Icons have a certain something that others just don't have. Monroe was an icon. Irresistable and unforgettable.

He he, Emge, you're a fan, right?

Well Bro, I am a fan too. Quite a tragic and fast-moving story hers used to be, and perhaps still is. An epitome of glamour, allure, charm and grandeur on a massive scale. May her Soul rest in the loving lap of the Supreme. Much Joy to you and yours.
