Mariposa Folk Festival 2011

Music fans everywhere, the fifty-first Mariposa Folk Festival, at Tudhope Park in Orillia, Ontario, on the shores of spectacular Lake Couchiching will be held this year on July 8th, 9th and 10th. If you are looking for a fun musical weekend you must come out and join in the listening of some really great artists.

This year’s line-up of artists so far is amazing.

Festival Headliner

The legendary songwriter, singer, producer and arranger Emmylou Harris, 12 time Grammy winner, who has just released her newest album “Hard Bargain”, will be performing this year at the festival as the headliner on Saturday night. This year’s festival is one not to be missed, with such a talented icon to kick off the 51st year of the Mariposa Folk Festival.

Peter Yarrow

From Peter, Paul and Mary, Peter Yarrow, co-writer of “Puff The Magic Dragon”, will be performing. Peter is responsible for starting Operation Respect, an organization to resolve conflict within the schools across America.

Performing at his first Canadian folk festival will be John McDermott. John is from Glasgow, Scotland but now lives in Canada. His rendering of the song "Danny Boy" was heard by Conrad Black and in 1992 his career as a singer started. John formed with the Irish Tenors but has since left that group. He travels worldwide performing and is quite active in The War Amps.

Irish Mythen

Irish Mythen will sing to your heart, she will make you laugh and leave you wanting more. Living on the East Coast of Canada, Irish tours the world singing and entertaining all year round.

Surprise Guests and More

These are just a few artists that will be at the festival this year. There are so many more and with nine stages offering non stop music and dance this year will no doubt be another successful event. This year there is a surprise guest that goes on stage right before the festival headliner and is sure to please everyone. Please check back as I will update the list of performing artists.

Food at the festival is always awesome with many types of cuisine to choose from which include pizza, burgers, Jamaican, Indian, vegetarian and more. Great Hub, Susan. Voted up & useful. Thank you for the head's up, BUT now I'm really kind of bummed, since I'll not be able to make it to Mariposa. The YouTubes you included were a good introduction to couple artists I'd not heard before.

      Have lots of fun.
