Matt Corby - Extraordinary Raw Talent
Raw New Talent
Matt Corby - An extremely gifted emerging new talent is going about his business quietly and impressively.
Then - It's hard to forget the extraordinary talent of the then very young, very sweet if not rather naive young man not so long ago, who entered the Australian Idol competition that scans the country looking for fresh new talent. What with his charming good looks, remarkable falsetto and brilliance of depth in his voice, the then 16 year old, left Australia gasping and hungering for more after his performance each week and confirmed in the judges mind that their hard work and hope for finding their Idol for the season had paid off. Never disappointing, he turned in a stellar performance week after week with a vocal range that belied his age. Stunning audiences and judges alike the Australian public voted him through to the last week of the grand final, but he was, unfortunately, pipped at the post to come runner up on the night.
Now - But what have the years following his bittersweet 2007 experience on Idol contained for the young man ask his many fans who voted faithfully for him week by week. In order to answer this we need to take a look at his recent journey and evolutionary progress from pop singer to established alternative artist and musician worthy of the music industries respect. Without doubt it was more than his boyish good looks and talented vocals that wowed audiences each week. The astute listener caught the quality of his music ability, and the level of his musical maturity in the way in which he understood and interpreted songs that could be expected from mature and long established artists who were often striving for such maturity but rarely reaching it in their career.
Young Career - For the past few years since Idol Corby has continued to carve out a path for himself musically, with a sound that has similarities to the raw vocals of a young Van Morrison singing 'Listen to the Lion'; and in the style of the soulful and exquisite voiced Jeff Buckley 'Hallelujah'; and with the musical genius of Cold Play's Chris Martin of 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' fame (think 'The Scientist') Corby adds a refreshing touch to the alternate music scene.
Having since signed with funky UK label Communion and having played to packed capacity crowds at concerts in the trendy village of Camden Town, London, as well as national tours across Australia and the US, Corby is finally making a name for himself through supporting acts such as Mumford and Sons and headlining his own sold out concerts.
Leaving Idol Behind - Shunning his Idol days where many without doubt believed he should have been crowned winner on the night this young man has undergone a radical change from a 16 year old fresh faced runner up on idol and has developed into one of the most exciting alternate artists that has come out Australia in recent years. Along with musicians that are of similar style Mumford and sons, Boy and Bear and BonIver Corby is carving a well deserved name for himself in the music industry and establishing a place in the hearts of his fans world wide.
Sweet Success - November 2011 saw the release of his fourth extended play, Into the Flame on which his hit single 'Brother ' starred. Entering the Aria Singles Chart at number 46 it continued to rise and peaked at No. 3 and in April 2012 made Platinum status and allowed Corby his first taste of success.
Impressive Performances - His concert performances reminiscent of a night with the brilliant Jeff Buckley, will take you on a journey from start to finish winding their way through your mind and soul, stirring your emotion and evoking and awaking internal passion and desire for more of the same. Check out his latest rendition 'Brother' on the YouTube video below - it won't disappoint.
Will this young talent rise to the echelons of the above mentioned musicians the question might be asked.
Possibly, but definitely not in the mainstream arena, but as an emerging alternate voice on music's world stage as a bright and raw new edition.
