Middle August, 2012
This is a collection of photos taken by me at Mount Rainier National Park on my recent 5 day visit.
They mostly consist of the area of the park which views Mt Rainier from the Southwest and South sides.
All pictures are copyright D Shannahan (taken with Pentax K20D).
Looking down one of the rivers which flows from Rainier.
Another view of the river. Notice the bridge where the first photo was taken.
First open view of Rainier coming up the trail from Paradise, on the way to Camp Muir.
Lush green hillsides off the trail.
A waterfall seen about halfway up.
Close up of a glacier and crevasses.
Another view of Mt Adams.
Close up of the Southern shoulder of Rainier. If you look closely, you can see Camp Muir just above the snowfield on the far right middle of the photo.
Close up of the top of the mountain.
Snowfields on the way to Muir.
Stone shelters up at Camp Muir (10,000 ft)
Hikers nearing Camp Muir.
A marmot takes in the view.
Close up of the grazing marmot who didn't seem to mind my company.
Another marmot lounging on a sunny rock.
Lookout on Gobblers Knob.
A meteor caught in a 30 second exposure.
The night sky in the wilderness.
Rainier silhouettes the stars.
Messing around with a flashlight.
Reflections on Lake George.
