Movie Quote of the Week #10
Alice Kingsley (Mia Wasikowska) - Alice in Wonderland (2010)
The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp): "Have I gone mad?"
Alice Kingsley: "I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All of the best people are."
Tim Burton’s reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic reflects his creative and slightly twisted imagination. The film’s colorful, artistic, and possesses darker tones with both its characters and atmosphere. With a plethora of fantastic characters, Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter steals the show with his strange mannerisms and clever dialogue, which we all have come to love and expect from the actor.
The realization of his own mental stability appears to initially trouble the hatter, until Alice sweetly comforts him with these kind words. If you enjoy Burton’s work and are looking for an interesting journey through his imaginative version of an already otherworldly tale, I say give it a watch.
Michelangelo (Michelan Sisti) - Teenage Mutan Ninja Turtles (1990)
“God I love being a TURTLE!”
Known as the goofiest turtle of the four ninja brothers, Michelangelo screams this declaration as he avoids a decapitating blow by ducking into his shell. The line may be corny, but its only fitting for this beloved nostalgic 90s film. The action is ramped up during the climatic showdown with the Foot Clan and this line drives the momentum home.
Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) - Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, MEN OF THE WEST!
In a last ditch effort to buy the ring barer more time, Aragorn leads the free peoples of Middle Earth to assault one of Sauron's most heavily fortified strongholds. Following "negotiations" with the grotesque Mouth of Sauron (see the extended cut), the armies of Mordor spill from the Black Gate and completely surround Aragorn and company. The ranger has some pretty decent lines and doles out some great advice, throughout the series. However, this speech is perhaps the best delivered by the future king of Gondor. It is certainly the most epic.
