Yo, Adrian!

Rocky pounds the meat in anger and frustration at the meat plant where Paulie works. This scene from the first Rocky film is something to see indeed.

From Underdog To Top Dog

Everyone Sylvester Stallone was inspired to make this movie after attending a live boxing match between Muhammad Ali and underdog Chuck Wepner.

Wepner was supposed to be a tune up but he ended up knocking Ali down and although Ali got up, and Wepner lost he still shocked the world. Rocky is the story about an Italian American living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who is as poor and down and out as they come.

The activity that gives him a distraction to his every day problems, is boxing. He boxes part time and he collects money like a gangster for a loan shark. He is given a chance at The Heavyweight Championship by a sheer stroke of luck.

Rocky falls in love with Adrian and it brings him extra motivation. Rocky, who feels like he is a tomato can and a loser, now has a purpose and he is not gonna let it go. The Italian Stallion gives up beer and cigarettes and trains like never before. Adrian is by his side always and is very supportive. In the end, it is bittersweet as Rocky loses a close decision but, floors Apollo and gets the respect and money he deserves for showing true grit and heart. This film franchise is all about striving to be the best you can and overcoming adversity. Rocky Balboa is a true underdog and he constantly faces long odds in life.

Adiran's brother is the reason they got together and here brother is very inl

Be sure and watch the Rocky Trailer at the bottom of this page if you have never seen Rocky. Surely, watching some clips will have you wanting more. It is a love story and a boxing story.

Cast and Crew

1. Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa-Although I consider Stallone a good actor he is not a great actor. But in this film he was truly great. He played an uneducated, poor Italian man from Philly perfectly. He is giving a chance by chance of luck to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world.

2. Talia Shire as Adrian Stallone- Anyone who has seen Shire in The Godfather films knows she can act. She plays the perfect Adrian as she acts very shy but she stands up for Rocky at all cost. Rocky and Adrian fall in love, get married and eventually have a son.

3. Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed- Weathers plays a cocky boxer with quick moves in the ring and a quick wit outside of it. Just like Muhammad Ali, Hmmm. Anyway he does a fantastic job and he and Rocky basically become two peas in a pod. Creed is the heavyweight champion in Rocky I and Rocky II.

4. Burgess Meredith as Mickey Goldmill- Meridith, who has been around so long that he actually played in some of The Twilight Zone episodes, must have studied the old time trainers because he was a perfect imitation of a great trainer. Hde was like a Ray Arcel in their. The most dramatic moments of the movie involved Mickey and Rocky.

5. Burt Young as Paulie- Young plays a believable drunk. He is Adrian's brother and he treats her like crap most of the time. He plays a good role with his emotional mood swings. One minute he is crying the next he is yelling to the top of his lungs. At one point in the movie, Paulie swings a baseball bat at Rocky, and threatens to break his arms.

Rocky vs. Apollo

Rocky fought Apollo Creed for the heavyweight championship in "Rocky". He lost a decision but he went the distance which is more than anyone expected him to do.

Sly Stallone Flicks

Does Rocky Make The Grade

1. Plot: Rocky is a club fighter who is given the chance to fight for the heavyweight title by shear luck circumstances. Stallone does a superb job in this role without a doubt. Grade- A+

2. Acting: The acting in this film is not outstanding but above average. Mickey(Burgess Meredith) has some great acting skill and his moments with Rocky are special. Stallone and Carl Weathers also do a fine job. Grade- B+

3. Music: The music gets very high marks mainly because it fits right in with the movie. The inspiring music during Rocky's training and during the fight are extraordinary. Grade- A-

4. Action: The films action scenes during the boxing matches are very intense. Sweat, blood and punches fly all over the place. Grade- A

5. Drama: The drama in this film is even better than the action. Every emotion is expressed in this sports flick. Sad, mad, happy and angry. Grade- A

6. Realistic: I am a big fan of Rocky but an even bigger fan of the sport of boxing. The fight scenes were unrealistic for many reasons. Number one a referee or doctor would stop a bout when a boxer gets beat on the way Rocky does. Also, using smelling salts and cutting a boxers eye with a razor is illegal and absolutely crazy. Grade- C

A nice movie that I have watched many times when I was a kid. The original remains the best of the series and quite a good movie overall! Good review. Thanks for sharing.
