The Purge: Election Year
3.5/5 - Sure, why not (Caution: May contain spoilers)
A 3.5 out a 5 is not too bad when it comes to films like these. Over the years, dystopia films have become a very popular genre, especially for young adults. This film, however, is an interesting cross between The Hunger Games and Scary Movie. Instead of boring you with the specific details about the new upcoming blockbuster, I'm just going to save you some time and give you a quick overview of the film.
Characters: Overall, the characters of this film were very predictable. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the predictability of the characters' actions and one-liners, but when you see so many films it can become a little tedious. Let's just say, that in every film we have the hero, the damsel, and the funny guy. The hero gets hit, but saves the day, the damsel learns to fight and gets the man, and the funny guy dies an epic death after a satisfying one-liner. Done. Roll credits.
Plot: Not as predictable and boring as I thought it would be. The story for the third Purge film is actually very engaging, and it fills in many plot holes from the previous two films. If you are a fan of The Purge series, then your eyes are going to be glued to the screen. If you are a horror or action fanatic, then fear not because The Purge keeps you on the edge of your seat when you come across terrible violent and gut-wrenching scenes.
Should I watch it?
Sure, why not. This film is not going to win any awards, but it's fun and interesting. If you are a dystopia/horror junkie or a general Purge fanatic (no pun attended) then you are going to see it, and love it. Let me tell you right now, you are, without a doubt, going to scream-whisper in joy when Kiss Me and the Murder Terrorists (or was it tourists?) die. If you are not into films like these then don't worry, just wait for the DVD.
