What Movies Are Like 300?
We will never forget those 300 brave Spartans, who risked their lives knowing their fate beforehand. Nor would we forget this movie.
Violent, stylish and jaw-dropping – If I had to define 300 with only three words, these are the first that would come to my mind. The story of those few brave men have been recreated a lot of times, but none has portrayed it with such authenticity and style before.
Being a huge fan, I compiled a list of few movies like 300 that you’d like. All these films take place in the medieval era with more or less same premise. Let’s take a look.
is a heart-breaking story of Maximus, a Roman general, who helped a lot with the expansion of the Roman Empire in foreign lands with his wins. All he wants to do is go home to his kids and wife. No more fights. Gladiator
When he rejects the offer of the new emperor to fight more wars for him, his wife and kids are burned alive. He somehow manages to escape only to be enslaved, eventually turning into one of the best gladiators ever seen.
With the whole town against the emperor, he might be the one they need to finally discrown an incompetent emperor.
It takes its sweet time with setting up the plotlines and developing various characters. Once everything is done, though, it kinda grows on you. I found myself slowly beginning to care for some characters, especially Maximus.
Apart from a touching story, the heart-stopping action sequences are just icing on the cake. You’d love every moment of it. If you’re looking for some great war movies like 300, you should give

Ever since he was young, he has seen his family and friends die in an ongoing war. It’s about time it ended. With Scotland’s freedom in every solder’s mind, they march on to do the impossible. Braveheart
Braveheart gets a lot of credit for the way it changed the way war movies are made. 300, Troy, Gladiator and every other war movies made after took a leaf out of Braveheart’s book. Anything short of gruesome battle scenes with epic action sequences in considered mediocre now; thanks to Braveheart. We learnt for the first time that war can be really ugly and gruesome. Everything else before its time doesn’t look half as good as it does.
I could go on about it for pages. You only need to know one thing – Braveheart is one of the best war movies like 300. And dare I say it; there would be no 300 and Gladiator if it wasn’t for this gem.
The movie takes place in the time when Romans had a lot of nations conquered. When they finally win over Sarmatia, they decide to take their fighters in as knights. Fast forward 15 years, those knights are finally going to be released from their duties. They can finally go home, but not before completing one last task.
Led by Arthur, they attempt to rescue a Roman priest and his son from an immediate threat while dealing with a few rebels who hate Romans.
This is one of those movies where you’re compelled to question the movie critiques. It’s not another Braveheart or Gladiator, but it certainly deserves better reception from everyone. Yes, they stripped it from all the mystical elements. So what? King Arthur still is pretty epic. A good plotline, flawless direction and some epic battle-scenes – it has everything you look for in a movie like 300.
300: Rise of an Empire - A character-centric movie like 300
Rise of an Empire picks up right after the first movie. The 300 Spartans are finally conquered. Motivated by their recent victory, the mortal-god Xerxes and Artemisia march towards other Greek cities. With everything at stake, the Greek general Themistokles have to shake hands with the rivals to see through the immediate threat. Can they keep their far superior enemies at bay?
Don’t pay any mind to the negative reviews about it. It’s rated low by so many critiques just because it couldn’t be as good as the first movie. However, the plotline is still pretty good. The action sequences would still make your jaws drop on the floor.
The world we know today wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for Alexander. He drove his army all the way through Persia, Egypt and finally making it to India. Conquering most of the known world in a very young age, he almost captured every country before dying at the age of 33.
This movie chronicles those 8 years of his life when he led his humongous army through most parts of the world, conquering everything in his way. A little bit of fiction mixed with concrete facts – not for everyone. If you’re looking for some entertaining movies like 300, though, won’t disappoint you. Alexander

In the 1870s, a civil war veteran trains the emperor’s troops in Japan to eradicate the last of the Samurai culture. When captured by Samurais, he learns more about their culture. Slowly but surely, he starts embracing it, worsening an already-complicated situation.
You’d be able to relate to his conflict. Which side to choose? Would he choose humanity over patriotism vice versa?
Tom Cruise has been a global star for quite some time now, delivering one blockbuster after another. His performance here, however, is the best amongst all.
Kent Watanabe is convincing in his portrayal of the leader of a Samurai clan. In fact, he outshines Tom Cruise on more than a few occasions. All the scenes between them are truly mesmerizing, depicting a range of subtle emotions between these two.

Baahubali - An Indian movie like 300
Despite being an Indian, I’ve never been a huge fan of Bollywood movies. Yes, there are a handful off good movies that’d make you think. Other than that, though, we don’t have much to offer, especially when it comes to war movies.
Directed by S. S. Rajamouli, Baahubali is an Indian epic that topples most western war movies with ease. Never before in Indian cinema history has someone been able to pull off something as big as this.
From special effects to battle sequences; the majestic grandeur just blows you away.
If you want to know more about ancient India, perhaps this is not a movie for you. It’s all fiction. Go in and have some fun.

Life wasn’t easy back then, especially for slaves. The gladiators had only one purpose – to die for glory. That is until a Thracian came along and taught them the meaning and importance of freedom.
Spanning across the 4 brilliant seasons, War of the Damned is a story of Spartacus – one of the best gladiators of his time, who along with others, led a war on the Roman Republic.
Apart from a touching, heart-breaking story, there’s a lot to feast your eyes upon. If you’re a gorehound, you’d love all the blood, violence and sex it has to offer.
Yes. It’s a TV show. The action and pace with which the story moves forward here, though, is better than a majority of contemporary movies we see these days.
Rome - Another TV show
Rome chronicles the last days of Roman Republic as it transforms into an autocratic empire. It shows how brutal that transition period was, effecting the lives of its ordinary citizens as well as some of the well-known names in the Roman History.
From political intrigue to action in the battlefield, this series has all the ingredients you look for in a film like 300. It’s such a shame that HBO had to cancel it just after 2 seasons. Despite being great, it could never get a break-even audience.
The good thing is, you still have 22 episodes of epic drama to feast your eyes upon. Give it a go.
