Hedley, a politically connected bad guy, sends his people into town to make it uninhabitable so he can steal the townsfolks' land. When the sheriff gets killed, of course, they want a new one and Hedley convinces the Governor to him to send the town the first Black sheriff in the west.

With a standard Robin Hood: Evil Prince premise, in this film, John is oppressing the people. The good King Richard is away on the Crusades and Robin steals from tax collectors. Robin also manages to wins an archery contest, and rescue Maid Marian but with a subtle as a hammer Mel Brooks touch. A parodying consisting of traditional adventure and, romance movies but while bringing to the forefront that manly men were running around the woods in tights.
