Modern Movies Inspired by Pay it Forward

Updated on October 31, 2017

Pay it Forward is about a young, smart boy who responded to a school assignment with a plan to help three people who will help three more and so on. It stars Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey and Joel Osment. If you always wanted to make an impact and a difference in this world, then this movie will inspire you in that direction, even it is in a small way. Let's take a look at other movies with that same message.

The Lamp is a wonderful, family friendly inspiring film. It is about a father who suffered the loss his only child and has secluded himself from those he loves in spite of the many attempts they have reached out to him. His wife Lisa is presented with a strange gift from a neighbor; an old oil lamp from a far off land. Along with the lamp comes a mysterious messenger and a question that causes them to search the depths of their hearts for what’s truly important in life. Academy award Winner Louis Gossett Jr., Jason Landon, Meredith Salenger, L. Scott Caldwell, Sara Brown and Cameron Ten Napel stars in this amazing movie.

The Ultimate Gift reveals the journey towards personal growth, developing character and understanding what is important. One young man who is surrounded by very greedy family members who possess a sense of entitlement. But billionaire Red Stevens, wants to leave at least one member of his extended family "the ultimate gift": something that would be more precious than material wealth. Take a look at what ultimate gift is. This movie is filled with comedy, drama and many life lessons. It is one of my favorites.

Freedom Writers is about a dedicated teacher, Erin Gruwell played by Hilary Swank in a Los Angeles school who are racially divided. This is a class with at-risk teenagers expected to be incapable of learning. Instead of giving up, she does her best to inspire her students to develop an interest in their education and their future, but it is a challenge. She encourages them all to keep journals about their lives and ask permission to read them. This leads her to connect with them and to understand the pain and hardships in their lives. It is a truly inspirational, moving story

It Could Happen to You (1994)

This movie is Inspired by a true incident. It is amazing classic, a wonderful, romantic comedy tells the story of a New York City street cop named, Charlie who made a promise to a waitress, Yvonne that will change both their lives. One day in the coffee shop, Charlie is embarrassed to discover he doesn't have money for a tip, so he tells Yvonne that he will share half of his the lottery money if he wins. Actually, he wins $4 million payoff. Take a look at how this changed their lives.

Millions is about Damian, a young boy whose mother died recently. He discovered a bag full of money that fell right out of the sky. He believed it was from God and that it is his responsibility to distribute money to the poor and those who need it. Damian told his brother Anthony but he wants to keep it a secret from their father, and spend it themselves. This movie is funny, and shows the various characteristics, like kindness, greed, giving and selfishness.

Thanks Karen for your comment. I appreciate your feedback. Yes, these movies do have better endings. I was sad also at that ending in Pay it Forward.

Great movie reviews here but please tell me they have better endings than Pay it Forward does. I was crushed by the ending of that movie and the end ruined the whole movie for me.
