Movies coming out in 2014

Updated on January 10, 2014

2014 is an exciting year for the movies. Some of the best movies that will release in 2014 are listed below:

  • The Monuments Men: This movie has been directed by George Clooney who gave us gems like ‘Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind’ and ‘Good Night And Good Luck’. The film was supposed to be completed and released by end of 2013. However, it got delayed because Clooney did not have time to meet the original deadline. The movie tells the story about a group of soldiers who go into Germany during World War II to recover an artistic masterpiece. In addition to Clooney himself, the cast also features wonderful actors like Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray, Hugh Bonneville, and Jean Dujardin.

  • X-Men: Days Of Future Past: Bryan Singer returns to helm the direction in this new X-Men movie. The film tells the story of the X-Men universe within two timelines. Thus, we will get to see both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy as Professor X in two different eras, as well as Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender enacting Magneto. If the movie is anywhere close to the awesomeness of X2, then we all are in for a treat.

  • RoboCop: The remake of the original RoboCop series made by Paul Verhoeven has garnered a lot of publicity. The original series is considered by many as being one of the top movies of the 1980s due to its intoxicating combination of black comedy, graphic violence, and corporate parody. Not many expect the remake to be as good as the original. However, as it is being remade by the Brazilian director Jose Padilha, one can certainly hope for a good time.

  • Interstellar: Nobody can debate the cinematic genius that is Christopher Nolan. Interstellar is his latest masterpiece. It may however be noted that not much is currently known about the storyline of this movie. Rumor has it that it tells the story about scientists who come across a wormhole and take a voyage through it. The enviable cast features Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, John Lithgow, and Casey Affleck. The movie is based on the work done by theoretical physicist Kip Thorne, while the screenplay has been rewritten by the Nolan brothers. Inception was a cerebral movie and most of us can bet our last dollar on the fact that Interstellar is going to be another intellectual behemoth.

  • Noah: Exodus and Noah are the two biblical epics that will hit the theaters in 2014. However, the later makes the cut due to the direction of Darren Aronofsky. There may have been disagreements between the studio and the director about the final cut, but we can all expect to have a whale of a time.Noah also marks the entry of Darren, easily one of the best contemporary directors, into the world of big budget movies. The cast comprising of Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, and Logan Lerman as well as the humungous scale of the film will ensure that movie lovers will get to enjoy a big screen extravaganza.

  • The LEGO Movie: It is one of the most eagerly awaited movies of 2014. The movie has been directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller who gave us the extremely funny ‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.’ The movie brings the visual design of Lego onto the big screen for the very first time. The movie features varied DC characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern and more in the LEGO form. The protagonist in the movie is a character called Emmet who inadvertently gets recruited to help save the planet from an enemy with despicable plans.

  • Need For Speed: Most films based on videogames tend to come out in DVDs soon after release. However, ‘Need for Speed’ is different in the sense that it is one of the best videogames ever. The trailer of the movie also suggests that it has lots of action, creative lighting, and some drama. Get ready to see Aaron Paul race across the highways of America on a vengeance mission. He is ably supported by a good cast that includes Michael Keaton, Imogen Poots, and Dominic Cooper.

  • Godzilla: It’s Godzilla and there is not much to say beyond that. Some leaked trailers show images of a devastated city and a menacing soundtrack. The cast includes a list of capable actors, while the filmmakers have a bigger effects department and a large team of expert technicians to help recreate the intimidating power of nature that is Godzilla.

  • 22 Jump Street: The first remake of the 80s show turned out to be one of the best comedy movies of 2012. It also revealed the amazing comic timing of Channing Tatum alongside Jonah Hill. The same team of filmmakers and actors have joined together for the sequel. Here’s to hoping that it will be equally hilarious if not more.
