Background
Formed in Liverpool, England in 1960, the Beatles are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful acts in the history of popular music. The band consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar), Paul McCartney (bass guitar), George Harrison (lead guitar) and Ringo Starr (drums). The Beatles have had more number one albums on the UK charts, and held down the top spot longer than any other musical act and have sold more albums in the US than any other artist (source RIAA).
