My Favorite Forgotten Bands

Updated on May 3, 2012

My favorite forgotten bands, not necessarily forgotten by the public (i'm not really sure how their public popularity is doing) but forgotten in my own life. Unfortunately, as you get passed high school, there's more to life than listening to music on your bed, you become busy and lose those little luxuries. This hub is too re-instill my love of these bands and to show you them if you have not heard of them.

Brand New

My favorite songs

  • Jude Law and a Semester Abroad
  • Jaws Swimming Theme
  • Guernica
  • Seventy times Seven
  • Mixtape
  • Sic Transit Gloria
  • Sudden Death in Carolina

Brand New is an emo-ish alternativey punkish hardcore type band. They kinda fit into their own genre and they are quite good. They have unique lyrics, some really good harmonizing vocals, all while keeping fast paced, (sometimes slow) interesting and sometimes difficult guitar riffs. They definitely have their own sound and I wish I knew more bands that were similar to them.

Senses Fail a more hardcore screamo, emo band, was also one of my high school favorites. A little more heavy than Brand New, senses fail incorporates some heavy quick guitar riffs along with blazing speed double bass pedal drumming. The songs usually have harmonizing screaming or a screaming based section of the song (chorus, or verse etc.) My favorites songs include:

  • The Irony of Dying on Your Birthday
  • Buried a Lie
  • Rum is for drinking not for burning
  • Garden State
  • Blackout
  • Lady in a blue dress

Story of the Year, my least favorite of the three (not saying I don't like them) finds a place more like Senses Fail genre. Lots of intricate guitar riffs, heavy choruses, backed with piercing vocals, and occasional screaming. This is the only band of the three I've seen live (warped tour @ susquehanna bank center) and they were very good live. I wish I had more time to discover music like I used to. But here are a couple of my favorite songs from Story of the Year.

  • Until the Day I Die
  • The Antidote
  • Anthem of our Dying Day
  • Wake up

I hope you found this hub interesting and maybe it peaked your interest. If you know any bands similar to these (particularly Brand New) let me know! I'd love some new music.
