Jet Li - My Favourite Asian Actor

Updated on December 3, 2011

Jet Li has always fascinated me and is a brilliant actor. You do not want to start a fight with him because he is an expert in Martial Arts. Jet Li was born in April 1963 and comes from Beijing, in China. I share 3 of my favourite Jet Li movie’s below:

Fearless (2006)

Also Starring - Shidô Nakamura, Betty Sun and Yong Dong.

Fearless is a true story based on Chinese martial arts guru Huo Yuanjia. He founded the Jing Wu Men martial arts school in Shanghai. Jet Li played Huo - a national hero. In this movie, he was a fearless fighter and the more judo and kungfu competitions he won, the more popular and respected he became. Infact, people asked if they could be one of his disciples. Sadly, there was a particular man he beat and a member of the family took vengeance on Huo’s family (Jet Li). He got home to find his mother and little daughter killed. Heartbreaking...

This led to another chapter of his life. If you haven’t watched the film, I recommend you watch it till the end, to see how events turned out for him.

The costumes in the film are awesome and it is subtited in English. It’s a film you would want to watch more than once.

Romeo must Die (2000)

Also starring - Aaliyah (the late singer), Isaiah Washington, Russell Wong and Delroy Lindo.

This is a Martial Arts movie mixed with Hip Hop. – in the process of searching for his brother's killer, Jet Li falls for Trish (Aaliyah), Isaak's beautiful daughter. An action packed movie and my favourite part was where Aaliyah tried to make Jet Li look “cool” so he could get into a Dance Club. His Hip Hop dance moves made me smile too. Great Movie.

Jet Li was a martial arts champion as a child and now he's a martial arts movie star in the U.S. and China. His first Hong Kong action movie was Shaolin Temple, 1979.

Kiss of the Dragon (2001)

Also Starring - Bridget Fonda, Tchéky Karyo and Max Ryan.

In this Movie, he and Richard (Tchéky Karyo) were to capture a Drug lord. The Drug Lord was killed and Jet Li (Johnny) was framed for his murder. Eventually, Jet Li teamed up with one of Richards’s prostitutes (Bridget fonda). Bridget decided to help Jet Li because Richard was holding her little daughter captive. A great movie with a lot of suspense.

You will also be able to work out what "The kiss of the Dragon" really is.

Do you have any favourite Jet Li movies?

      Lady Elena, nice compilation.

I've watched "Romeo must die" but it's been a long time.

Jet Li is a nice martial artist but most people say he uses film tricks oftentimes.

** Hi Raakachi - I have watched Bruce Lee and also enjoy Jackie Chan, particularly as most of his movies are mixed with humour and you are right, he moves like lightning. Glad you stopped by. Thanks.

Hello Elena, The next to Bruce Lee, i like Jakie Chan and Jet Li very much.Bruce is known for his style where as Jakie is known for his speed in action. I think Jet Li would be somewhat the copy of Jakie Chan when compared with his speedy actions. Take care! bye...

Jet Li is an amazing martial arts expert. I believe the movie "Hero" gave him some critical acclaim. While he has built a following, I'm more a Michele Yeoh fan. She actually got on a motorcycle, drove up the side of a mountain and landed that bike on a moving train for a movie stunt. Now that's fearless!

Hi Elena, Jet Li is for sure one of the most talented actors in the world, his movies are always a pleasure to watch specially the fearless I have seen it more than four times. I would also add to the list The forbidden Kingdom movie for the fight scene. thanks for sharing and voted up.

All of these movies were great, and he has been consistently doing great work for many years.

My own list would have to include The One, simply because of the ending scene.

Oh, I'm surprised that Jet Li is that old. He definitely doesn't look it.
