Top 5 Donny Osmond Songs From The 1970's
Ah, Donny Osmond. Sweet memories. My first love, and at that time, my only love. Up until that point I didn't know what love was. To me, boys were boys, and girls were girls, and, well I was just 13 years old.
I remember the very first time I saw Donny on TV. Oh the romance of the moment. I was sitting at the dinner table, I can see it now. Roast beef boiled potatoes and carrots. Those carrots were so orange and red they stand out in my mind. Why?
Because I choked on the darn things!
Donny was on, I think, something like the Royal Variety program. I turned round to watch him sing, and that was the first time I saw him.
And in that tiny little second something strange happened to my body and mind. I felt like my stomach was dropping to my boots, my head felt hot and in my mire so to speak, I swallowed a carrot and it went down the wrong way!
My mum jumped up and bashed me on the back. I remember flapping my hands at her to 'Get out the darn way!' If I was going to suffocate then at least let me see my love!
Of course, since then he has influenced my choice of men. They were always dark haired, and slim.
So this article is in tribute to my first love. Donny Osmond.
Thank you Donny.
Young Love - 1973
In 1973 Donny revived this 1956 hit. First written by Ric Carter and Carole Joyner. It was a hit many times over the following years, by singers such as Sonny James and Tab Hunter.
But this is the best version, and very appropriate as my first choice.
Puppy Love - 1972
This is a good choice of song with me in mind. Lets face it, what I felt for Donny Osmond at that time was pretty much this. Puppy Love. I suppose you could say an enormous crush! But boy did that crush happen!
The song was first written by Paul Anka in 1960. He wrote the song for his love. Annette Funicello who he was dating at that time. The love may not have lasted. But the song has endured.
Puppy Love - 1972
Too Young - 1972
Another very appropriate song. Too Young! I loved this one, as it seemed at the time as though it were written for me and Donny! Ah youth, so young and innocent. But magical none the less.
Too Young was the fourth studio album by Donny Osmond, and released in 1972.Both Too Young and Why reached the Top 20. The album was certified Gold at the RIAA in 1973.
A Time For Us - 1973
A Time For Us is the sixth studio album by Donny Osmond. It reached the top 100 and also certified Gold in January 1974.
The song A Time For Us was also The Love Theme of the film Romeo and Juliet made in 1968, starring Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting.
If you want to watch any Shakespeare play then this is the one. It is a fabulous film!
When I Fall In Love - 1973
When I Fall In Love was written by Victor Young who wrote the music, and Edward Hayman, who came up with the wonderful lyrics way back in April 1952. In fact it was first sung in the Movie 'One Minute to Zero'. Starring Robert Mitchum and Ann Blythe.
Its one of my favorite Donny Songs ever!
The Twelfth of Never - 1973
The Twelfth of Never written and performed by Johnny Mathis was first released in 1957. Cliff Richard also recorded the record. But the most popular and well known version was of course, recorded and sung by Donny Osmond in 1973.
This is my favorite of all Donny Osmond records. The first time I heard it I fell in love with the song, and after all these years it brings a tear to my eye to remember those days when I first fell in love.
So, what has Donny been doing over the years since? Well for many years Donny and his sister Marie have been performing together, then came the famous Coat of Many Colours where he played Joseph, and to top it off he eventually won Dancing with the Stars, back in 2009.
He has also been known to host a few game shows in his time, such as Pyramid and The Great American Dream Vote.
Along with Radio shows and Musical theater, Donny is as successful today as he was back then as a teen. One of the reasons that Donny is still in the public eye is because he has learned to adapt and change. His music is different, more mellow and he has embraced his work in films and TV.
And he is still as handsome as ever. Maybe not in that boyish cute kind of way, but in a warm friendly smiling way.
Donny still has millions of fans all over the world. And that includes me too. I may be an adult now with many years on the clock, but I still remember that first flush of love when I looked across at the TV sitting in the corner of the room, and thinking, 'Wow who is that boy?' And Because of that moment, I met and married a dark haired man.
