My Recommendation to See The Help - A wonderful new movie based on the book

Updated on October 20, 2011

The Help - An incredible movie

My mother, who never goes to movies at the theater hardly ever, went to see this movie. Later, she wanted me to go see it with her again! I knew I had to go because she rarely is this impressed with movies, and to spend the money, twice was unheard of almost!

I was waiting for her to arrive, I had our popcorn and candy, and was sitting and talking to the "ticket taker" lady for some time. When she found out what I was seeing, it was all we talked about until my mom got there. Evidently, it is really growing in popularity, beyond anyone's wildest imaginations. To prove this, if you go to your local library to check out "The Help" in book form, you will likely be put on a long waiting list! My local library has a list 400+ people long. In my mothers very small country town, over 45 people are waiting! Does this give you any idea how hot this 2 and a half our movie is?

Based on the book, this movie is simply amazing, in my opinion. I truly love it, and it is not just another chick flick.

Don't judge by this trailer, this makes it look just like a chick flick, but its so much more.

Even men are liking the movie, and proud to state it! Based on history in Mississippi in the early 60's, it tells of the struggles of living in a racist area that will really grip your heart. So many generations involved at one time, and how the forming of a baby's life on through death can be so impacted by our views.

The acting is amazing. Emma Stone actually, has already been a favorite in my mind for some time. She is an amazing actress. In one part, I was truly overcome with emotion as she was at hearing some news. I cannot begin to share too much here, but I hope you go to see it!

You cannot help but just fall in love with Viola Davis in this film. She plays a remarkable role. Octavia Spencer is just too fun, as is Jessica Chastain. Absolutely love these characters.

You don't feel like you are watching a movie, and you feel like you are really there. The acting of Bryce Dallas Howard is astounding. Man, does she look just like her daddy! (Her father is Ron Howard)

You will laugh, cry, think, then think hard, appreciate life and learn so very much in this movie. It had good rhythm too, if I can say that. I mean, I wasn't left hanging, or wanting more, or disappointed, it was as if it was done perfectly. I am telling you, there is quite a buzz going on with this movie and book. You don't want to miss it. They are likening it to many other books and movies in history like Harper Lee and more. You know, those movies or books where they didn't quite reach their height immediately, but rather grew with time to be something that won't ever be forgotten.

My biggest "gulp" of all, was to think that this really....wasn't all that long ago. I love my country, and hope it continues to grow and grow in morals and integrity, and not get too complacent or lazy. I am concerned about it. This movie gives some hope.

To add, my husband says he wanted to see only see this and one other movie this year. He also doesn't hardly ever spend the money to go to a movie. This was before I saw it so it wasn't at all based on my review. I hope you go and see it, its fascinating, inspiring, wonderfully written and produced and I give it my standing ovation and two thumbs up! Way to go Tate Taylor.

Kathryn Stockett wrote The Help, and many are reading it again or buying it to own it. I will be next in line.

Prasetio, thank you! Hope you like it :)

Daisy and Sally, thank you for your comments. I think the city they filmed a lot of it in was Fondren, Mississippi, based on that video above. It was a good place, imo. I can't wait to read the book!

Saw this movie with my husband a few days ago and we both loved it. Great acting, great story, and it felt like it adhered to the way things were back then. I'm glad many are seeing and talking about it because there's still healing to do in our nation.

Thanks for this well written review.
