NCIS - Overview

Americans and people around the world have fallen in love with CBS's NCIS. The creators of the show have managed to keep audiences glued to the TV for over 13 years, as NCIS quickly became the number one show in United States, and its ratings from around the world are more than impressive.
There are a total of 11 seasons of NCIS, and the main cast is still intact as the main characters have become household names around the world. There are 245 NCIS episodes to date, and each one is more exciting than the previous one. CBS has hit the jackpot with NCIS as the show has been delivering the best ratings for years now.
NCIS was created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, which is no surprise especially for Bellisario's involvement in NCIS as he has been an avid supporter of the Untied States military and its veterans.
This is a comprehensive list of all the main characters who have been a part of NCIS for the past decade or so along with their "real life" information, and interesting facts about them.

What Does NCIS Stand For?

NCIS stands for: Naval Criminal Investigative Service

Mark Harmon Plays Gibbs

NCIS - Leroy Jethro Gibbs - Mark Harmon

Mark Harmon is mostly known from his stellar performances on NCIS, as he has been the leading character since the beginning of the series. Mark Harmon is one of the highest paid actors on television, as NCIS has been the number one rated show in terms of ratings for the past several years. Leroy Jethro Gibbs as we all know him, has had lots of roles both on television and on the big screen alike. However Mark Harmon became a "household" after the hit drama Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Many people are not aware that Mark Harmon was UCLA quarterback in 1972. Mark Harmon graduated with a degree in communications, and he followed his passion for acting right after graduation. Mark Harmon has two kids, and is currently married to Pam Dawber.
Mark Harmon's notable acting jobs include: Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths where he played as Superman, After the Promise, Chicago Hope, and many more.

Tony DiNozzo NCIS

NCIS - Anthony DiNozzo - Michael Weatherly

Michael Weatherly plays the role of Anthony DiNozzo in the hit TV drama NCIS. He is one of the most beloved characters on the show, and has been playing a key role for the success of NCIS. NCIS has been Michael Weatherly's biggest and most successful acting gig. He has been with the show for over a decade and has taken part in pretty much every episode that has been aired. There is no doubt that Anthony DiNozzo gives NCIS an unprecedented charm and he has become viewers favorite guy on Gibbs's team.
An interesting fact about Michael Weatherly is that he dated and was engaged to Jessica Alba for three full years, and he has been married twice. Producers of NCIS have mentioned several times that he is considered a key piece for the success of the show, and they do not have any plans of changing that for years to come.

NCIS - Ziva David - Cote de Pablo

ZIva David real name is Cote de Pablo and has been considered one of the biggest gambles the show has ever taken. She entered NCIS for season three, and made an immediate impact. She plays a special agent with strong ties to Israeli special forces (Mosad). She compliments DiNozzo in many ways and both of them represent the romantic side of NCIS, as viewers have been expecting them for years to officially become a couple.
Cote de Pablo is an actress and a singer and she is originally from Chile. An interesting fact about her is that she graduated from the highly touted Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh PA.
There have been many rumors that Ziva will be leaving NCIS, however just like DiNozzo, the producers realize that she is one of the main reasons NCIS is so successful, and they will not let her just walk away from the show as ratings might decline (and this is the last thing CBS executives want)

NCIS - Abby Sciuto - Pauley Perrette

Pauley Perrette is also known as Abby Sciuto the famous forensic specialist on Gibbs team. Her role in NCIS has been getting progressively bigger as audiences have fallen in love with her and her charismatic character.
Just like most of the actors on NCIS, Pauley Perrette's career has skyrocketed since she joined the cast of NCIS. She has been an active actor since 1994 and NCIS without a doubt has been her biggest and most successful acting gig. She was married once to Coyote Shivers, however she divorced him in an ugly separation, and Abby from NCIS is currently single (or at least she claims to be).

McGee - NCIS

NCIS - Timothy McGee - Sean Murray

Timothy McGee plays the geek in on the NCIS team. McGee's real life name is Sean Murray and just like DiNozzo and Gibbs, has been a part of the show since the very beginning. He is the nerdy, yet very interesting character in the show, and audiences adore him.
In real life McGee (Sean Murray) is currently married with two children, and has been an active actor since 1991. He has enjoyed great success with NCIS and has stayed away from other acting roles for a while. NICS plans to keep Sean Murray for as long as possible as the show continues to deliver high ratings with the current main characters, and McGee is considered one of them.

NCIS - Leon Vance - Rocky Carroll

Rocky Carroll is known as Leon Vance in NCIS and plays the agency director. He plays the somewhat of a negative role from time to time, as his character is defined by an ongoing competition with Gibbs.
In real life, Rocky Carroll has mainly been part of NCIS, and he has has several other gigs, however NCIS has been the biggest one of his career. Rocky Carroll is currently married with one child.
As for his participation in NCIS he became one of the main characters after the sun setting of the previous NCIS director:Jenny Shepard in 2009.

NCIS - Donald "Ducky" Mallard - David McCallum

David McCallum plays Ducky Mallard in NCIS, and he is currently the oldest actor on the set of the hit TV show. He is the undisputed veteran on the cast and has been of great help to NCIS as an actor of his caliber has stuck with the show for every episode for over a decade now. Ducky has been rumored to be one of the first main characters to be retired from the show, as he is 80 years old. His character might soon be replaced by his assistant Jimmy Palmer who is much younger and has been with the NCIS crew since the beginning as a medical assistant.
Ducky has been married twice, and he is originally from Scotland (in case you were wondering where is the accent from).
David McCallum has been an active actor since the early 1960 and his career has been an extremely successful one, even at the age of 80 he is still a star in a hit TV show.

Interesting hub. I've been a fan of the show since around season 6 (although I've obviously gone back and watched all the previous episodes). Nice briefing on every character, but I missed at least a note on Kate. I really liked her character.
