Netflix Instant: The Best Comedies Available to Stream Instantly - October 2014
The Best Comedy Films on Netflix
Netflix Instant is the perfect online film/TV series streaming service, with a wide array of films from all genres and a generous amount of TV series on offer for viewing instantly.
This is why I decided to create a top 10 list for all of the genres, to make finding the best movies easy, so that everyone can skip out on watching the bad movies. It has become a common problem for individuals with Netflix, as the service is near perfect, with one minor problem, being the vast amount of choices for the user, which is why it is simpler to just know what's the best on offer.
So, stop wasting time watching the bad movies and get straight to the best which are available at the touch of a button.
Note: If you are not currently a Netflix user, then subscribe at the following link:
UK - This is the link for UK subscribers, simply click on the link, which will take you to the Netflix home page, with a button, which should state, "Start your free month", which will lead to a page asking to fill out personal details. First month is FREE, thereafter the set price each month is £5.99 per month. Now, enjoy streaming instant films/TV series.
US - A similar process to the above. First month is FREE, thereafter the set price each month is $7.99 per month.
Without further ado, here is the list of the best Netflix instant comedies available at the moment, to stream instantly:
#10 - Bruce Almighty (2003)
Short Review: This is a comedy | drama | fantasy, which stars the hilarious Jim Carrey as Bruce Nolan. Bruce is given almighty powers from God, as punishment for complaining about him one to many times.
This has to be one of the funniest films ever created, due to its fantasy element mixing perfectly with the comedy, and the added drama. For anyone looking for a comedy which can pull off the impossible storyline, which ordinarily would become a flop in my book, as it is hard to accept a storyline so crazy. Although the crazy is the now in movies, which is probably through the help of movies like this one.
This is a movie which doesn't take itself seriously, so neither should you as it will only ruin your view of the movie. This is one of Jim's funniest roles he has ever performed, which is saying something, considering the large amount of roles he has done in the past.
Stars: Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman
Age: 12 and above
Personal Rating: 7/10
IMDb Rating: 6.7/10
#9 - Office Space (1999)
Short Review: This is a mighty successful, well put together comedy, which was unbelievably funny. However the movie did flop at the box office, which will come as a surprise after seeing the movie, as it deserved to be a financial success.
Honestly touching on the pains of office life, so specifically a must watch for anyone who has or does work in an office, as this will be a fairly relate-able movie. Or, for those who have never worked in an office, your still in for a treat as the movie has a good storyline, a lot of easy laughs, and a well paced speed, making the movie easy to sit through.
This is what you might call a cult classic, and FYI, "I love cult classics."
Stars: Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, David Herman
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 7.6/10
IMDb Rating: 7.9/10
#8 - Pineapple Express (2008)
Short Review: This is an action | comedy | crime. When a pot head, another pot head, and finally another pot head come together, anything is possible, especially when one of them witnesses a criminal execution take place.
This is a movie which is not to be taken seriously, as the storyline is crazy, but somehow still extremely funny, with a couple of brilliantly funny actors, Seth Rogen and James Franco. Every scene is as funny as the last, with a lot of high as a kite moments with the characters, but just go with it, as its usually at that time when something really funny but silly will happen.
If you are like myself, into the wacky, not take it serious type of comedies, then this is a must watch movie.
Stars: Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 7.6/10
IMDb Rating: 7/10
#7 - Superbad (2007)
Short Review: This is a teen comedy, with a few unpopular high school graduates, who are getting ready to let loose and have a party to celebrate at a friends house. However when given the task of getting the booze for the party, things go terribly wrong, as they are all under age, and get into a nightmare on a journey to get the alcohol.
Once again, this is a movie not to be taken seriously, as every scene is just, out of control, what the hell, madness. It is the type of movie for those who do not want a serious comedy, but a silly, let loose, all out stupidity, type of movie.
Stars: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 7.8/10
IMDb Rating: 7.7/10
#6 - Zombieland (2009)
Short Review: This is a comedy | horror. When humans are knocked down the food chain, from the top position by flesh eating zombies, how are humans going to survive in such a world. Well, this comedy will explain the rules to survival, with a very funny storyline which brings together characters from different areas, with different stories, to form a group.
A funny movie with some great acting from all of the cast, and quite honestly the best zombie comedy created so far, besides of course, 'Shaun of the Dead' (which is a classic).
Anyone looking for a great comedy with zombies, which is serious, yet, not too serious, with great acting, great characters, and a brilliant storyline, then this is the movie to watch.
Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 7.8/10
IMDb Rating: 7.7/10
#5 - The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
Short Review: This is a comedy | drama. A brilliant comedy, well worth watching, with some of the best known actors in the business. This is an instant classic, with a well structured story, with plenty of laughs waiting to be had, thanks to its spectacular director Wes Anderson.
For anyone who is a fan of edgy comedy (which is always the best) will love this movie as every scene is done perfectly, resulting in everyone's favourite comedy.
With so many great comedy actors, all in one place, this is a movie anyone with a taste for comedy with love.
Stars: Gene Hackman, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 7.9/10
IMDb Rating: 7.6/10
#4 - The Jerk (1979)
Short Review: This is the role every Steve Martin fan remembers him playing, in this hilarious movie, which has to be Steve Martin's best ever performance.
With a great script, great acting, and a load of funny moments, this is a movie everyone should see at least once. It is the type of movie which doesn't need explaining because the only way to truly understand how funny the movie was, is by watching it.
Its one of Steve Martin's earlier movies, which shouldn't put anyone off watching it, as it is still a really funny movie, even compared to the highlighted comedies of today.
Stars: Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters, Catlin Adams
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 7.9/10
IMDb Rating: 7.2/10
#3 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Short Review: This is a comedy | drama. Matthew Broderick's funniest performance ever, as he takes on the role of a high school student, determined to have a day off from school.
This is on everyone's list of the funniest movies of all time, including mine, which is why it is a treat, to have the movie available on Netflix instant to watch right now.
Stars: Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 7.9/10
IMDb Rating: 7.9/10

#2 - Raising Arizona (1987)
Short Review: This is a comedy | crime. A hilarious comedy brought to us by The Coen Brothers, who have evidently proven they can direct any movie in any genre (at least almost every genre). The directors sense of humour certainly comes across in their movies, and this one is no different, as the movie is strangely hilarious.
This is a laugh out loud comedy, with plenty for everyone to enjoy, even those who have the type of sense of humour, which only ever causes laughter at certain things. This is a comedy everyone should watch, with an odd set of characters, who seem to pull it off, making this one of the funniest movies ever created, as well as available on Netflix Instant.
Stars: Nicolas Cage, Holly Hunter, Trey Wilson
Age: 15 and above
Personal Rating: 8/10
IMDb Rating: 7.5/10
#1 - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Short Review: Who doesn't love a Johnny Depp movie? Well, I know of no one who dislikes the actor, so I would imagine, nobody! Whether your a fan of Johnny, or not, this is the funniest movie available on Netflix Instant, with some of the craziest, and funniest scenes which leave me laughing even once the movie is over.
Make no mistake, this is not the type of comedy which relies purely on slap stick laughs, as this movie has a gripping storyline, which makes the entire movie a breeze to watch. Even though the movie comes with an 18 or above rating, it is worth watching, and it isn't too bloody, in case anyone hates bloody violence.
This is the number 1 comedy on Netflix Instant right now, which is the perfect choice for an evening in with friends or loved ones, and popcorn.
Stars: Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro, Tobey Maguire
Age: 18 and above
Personal Rating: 8.5/10
IMDb Rating: 7.7/10
