5 stars for Netflix Streaming

Netflix isn't forthcoming regarding what and when they are releasing new material to their library of streaming media.

Netflix is a great product but unfortunately it's easy to miss some really good new releases given their policy of not broadcasting what they intend to release in the coming weeks and months.

For instance, in October they released the film, Room 237, an excellent documentary about conspiracy theorists who read way too much into the movie, The Shining based on Stephen King's novel and starring, Jack Nicholson.

That said, if you're willing to dig around a bit you can still discover many new releases on the Netflix streaming service each and every month.

What Maisie Knew

What Maisie Knew is a film adapted from a novel by, Henry James.

The film explores through the eyes of a six year old the destruction of her family through divorce.

What Maisie knew received positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike for it's well scripted story, on point direction and keen acting.

What Maisie Knew was an Independent film in limited release earning only slightly over $1 Million at the box office.

One of the benefits of Netflix Streaming is their ability to bring smaller, less seen, but quality Independent films, such as What Maisie Knew to a larger audience.

What Maisie Knew co-stars, Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood fame, Juliane Moore and Steve Coogan and is available to stream on Netflix in November.

Only God Forgives Available 11/16/13

The Canyons

One new release that will be available on Netflix Streaming in November is, The Canyons.

The Canyons stars, Lindsey Lohan and her costar is an actual adult film star. Lindsey who has been put on the back burner lately in the race for craziest celebrity thanks to Miley Cyrus, puts in a passable performance in the film.

The New York Times wrote an interesting article about the struggles of trying to make a movie with the volatile Lohan, "Here is What Happens When You Case Lindsey Lohan In Your Movie".

The Canyons isn't going to win any awards, but may prove interesting, especially if you're a Lindsey Lohan fan.

You Might Have Missed: Derek

Although it's not new in November, you may have missed the excellent comedy, Derek, starring Ricky Gervais.

In Derek, Gervais, plays a special needs employee of a British nursing home for low income retirees. The show is both funny as well as touching at times. Derek portrays a lot of humanity in the character Derek, and instead of making him an over the top buffoon he plays him more realistically.

In one episode, Derek, who likely suffers from Autism, states, "I am not good looking or clever but I am kind. I am good at being kind". It's in these kind of revelations that we see Derek should be admired and not pitied.

Derek is a strong win for Gervais and is both funny and touching.

Where To Find More New Release Information

One of the best maintained sites for new Netflix releases is Hacking Netflix.

Hacking Netflix updates it's content weekly, listing what is new both on DVD and streaming. As you will notice Netflix offers much newer content on it's DVD service than it's streaming service. This is due to higher licensing fees on streaming content. That said, there's still a lot to choose from in the streaming library. In addition, there are often lesser known movies and shows offered on the streaming service that you may not have heard of but will be pleasant surprises.

Hacking Netflix releases this information each Monday so make sure to check back often to see what's new and interesting on the Netflix streaming service.

Another nice feature of the Hacking Netflix site is that all the titles are hyper-linked. That means if you click on a title you are interested in it will bring you directly to the Netflix site and from there you can add the title to your queue.

Netflix streaming has a ton of quality content to watch, sometimes you just have to dig a little to find it. Good Hunting!
