New Releases on Netflix Streaming in February 2014
Netflix has undoubtedly taken over as the leader in the growing video streaming industry. With over 40 millions subscribers world wide, and award winning original series such as House of Cards, Amazon Prime and Hulu aren't even close.
For $7.99 per month you get access to Netflix's vast streaming library containing thousands of movies and shows.
Although Netflix has the best recommendation program of any streaming service it's not always perfect. Netflix adds and deletes new content from it's library each week.
Here are some of the newer releases coming to the service in February.
Netflix announces new releases throughout the month so check back as this article will be updated as new information becomes available.
Don Jon is a romantic comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt of Looper fame.
The film also stars Scarlett Johonssen, Julianne Moore and Tony Danza.
The movie is about Don Jon's porn addiction and his inability to connect with women in a meaningful way because of it. In counterpoint, Johonssen's character treats romantic comedies as her own version of "porn" with both types of films porn and romantic comedies portraying an unrealistic expectation for any two adults in a normal relationship. No women is really like the vixens portrayed in the adult film industry nor are there any men who are the flawless knights in shining armor seen in romantic comedies such as Love Actually.
Gordon-Levitt does an excellent job of both writing and directing in his first endeavor and the casting is spot on.
Don Jon is available on Netflix streaming in February.

You May Have Missed: Wallander
Some of the best shows available on Netflix streaming are not from the United States. There are some great shows produced in Britain that have not aired on mainstream television here in the states.
One of these British produced shows is Wallander, starring, Kenneth Branagh. Branagh plays a police inspector in a small town in Sweden. The character of Wallander struggles with making sense of the violence he sees each day at his job.
Wallander has won six British Academy Television Awards including Best Drama series and is available on Netflix streaming.
Upcoming Netflix Originals
As you know Netflix produces some of it's own content. They have announced that they will produce a third season of Lillyhammer. Season one and season two of Lillyhammer are currently available on Netflix streaming.
Netflix has also announced it will be producing a show based on the adventures of Marco Polo. Marco Polo will be a nine chapter series and should be available to Netflix subscribers in late 2014. The show is being produced for Netflix by the Weinstein company who recently produces such hits as The King's Speech and Inglorious Bastards.
Along with new seasons of Lillyhammer and a completely new show in Marco Polo, Netflix subscribers can anticipate new seasons of House of Cards as well as Orange is the New Black in the coming year.
Netflix seems to be successfully following their plan to become the new HBO by producing their own must see content that only their subscribers have access to. Netflix is arguably producing some of the best new content available anywhere.
The Best Documentary Available on Netflix
Netflix has hundreds of great documentaries available including Jiro Dreams of Sushi and Hoop Dreams but according to Rotten Tomatoes poll results, the best documentary, with a 98% fresh rating is, This is Not a Film.
This is Not a Film is a documentary partially shot on an Iphone which was smuggled into France in a cake. It chronicles the struggles of an Iranian Director, Jafar Panahi as he appeals a 6 year prison sentence and a 20 year ban on making films due to his support of the opposition in the 2009 Iranian elections.
This is not a Film, shows the power that film still has to educate and illustrate current events in a way no other media can. We see first hand the persecution and lack of freedom available to Iranian citizens. This is not a Film is a powerful and moving documentary currently available on Netflix streaming.
Lose Weight With Binge Watching
A new study reports that binge watching your favorite show on Netflix may increase your likely-hood of working out and keeping that New Year's resolution.
45% of respondents to a poll conducted by The Wall Street Journal reported they would be more motivated to work out if they have access to commercial free streaming videos of their favorite shows such as what is available on Netflix.
What seems to work best is making a pact with yourself to only watch a certain show while you are working out. For instance, if you want to watch the series, Breaking Bad, promise yourself you will only watch that show while on the treadmill. Not only will this make the cardio time fly by but will also give you something to look forward to when it's time to jump on the elliptical.
Instead of dreading a 30 minute routine on the stair climber you can look forward to catching up on the next episode of 30 Rock.
And, the best part, there's enough material on Netflix to keep you in shape well into the next decade!
What is your favorite Netflix Original?
Last Month's Poll Results
Neflix has produced some of it's own quality content for it's streaming service.
Some of these award winning shows include, Derek, House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, Lillyhammer, Orange is the New Black and the final season of Arrested Development.
In December the overwhelming favorite based on the poll was Orange is the New Black with 58% of the votes, a distant second with 28% of the vote was Hemlock Grove.
The Usual Suspects
Kevin Spacey won an Academy Award for Best Supporting actor in 1995 for his role in The Usual Suspects.
The film also won an Academy Award for best screenplay.
The film has an 88% Rotten Tomato ranking meaning 88% of critics liked the film. Although Roger Ebert famously only gave the film one and half stars, calling the film, "confusing and uninteresting".
You can be the judge yourself as The Usual Suspects will be available to view on Netflix streaming in February.
New $6.99 Price Point
Netflix is offering some new subscribers an option for a $6.99 plan as opposed to the normal $7.99 or $11.99 option.
The cheaper version will be for a one screen plan and will have some HD limitations. Netflix is offering this on a trial basis and it may not become a permanent option.
One area where Netflix still struggles is subscribers sharing accounts. Meaning a paid subscriber can simply provide their log in and password to a relative or friend who can then access their account for free. Up to now Netflix has not made any efforts to combat these moochers but this new cheaper plan may be a way for them to reach out to some of the more frugal potential customers.
Amazon Prime: A Good Companion to Netflix
