Updated on November 28, 2009

The Top 10 New Year's Day Music Playlist Selections

Looking for a great New Year's Day music playlist? The following list contains what I believe to be the 10 Best New Year's Day Music, based on lyrics regarding change, new beginnings and other New Year's Day themes.

What do you think about our Top 10 New Year's Day Music list? Comment below if you have a suggestion not seen here or to debate the merits of this New Years Day music list!

10 Best New Year's Day Music Selections

10. New Year's Day, U2

Clearly, U2's New Year's Day is probably not only an appropriate addition to the list, but perhaps one of the greatest songs in the rock genre ever released (seriously.) The song addresses New Years changes. Bono has also said the song was written in regards to Poland's end to marshal law on New Year's Day, 1984.

9. Changes, David Bowie

An absolute classic, David Bowie's Changes is fitting for a New Year's Day song, as Bowie croons about time flies by and the seasons in life.

8. Dust in the Wind, Kansas

Suggesting life's brevity and alluding perhaps to our creation as coming from the earth, Dust in the Wind is a great reminder that each day in the New Year should be treated with care. You only live once!

7. Run, Collective Soul

Collective Soul's Run conveys how life changes as the years progress; each New Year's Day brings new beginnings and the closure of others, and therefore is a great song for any New Years Day playlist.

6. I Believe I Can Fly, R. Kelly

Encouraging listeners to spread their own wings, R.Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly urges New Year's Day revelers to consider the challenges that may present themselves in the New Year and to succeed. With this song in your New Years Day playlist, you CAN fly!

5. I Hope You Dance, Lee Ann Womack

A song about wisdom, Lee Ann Womack presents her hopes for a generation in I Hope You Dance, which offers a vision of faith and courage in the face of tough times. A great New Year's Day song.

4. Live Like We're Dying, Kris Allen

American Idol winner Kris Allen's song about chance and taking risks, Live Like We're Dying, offers that each day of the New Year, we have 86,400 seconds to make the most out of life. Allen's song is a remake of The Script's hit in Ireland.

3. 100 Years, Five for Fighting

Five For Fighting's 100 Years chronicles the life of a young man through (you guessed it) 100 years of life. The song is light and offers an air of wisdom. It also makes me sentimental, especially when Chase Visa used it on their recent commercial touting their line of credit cards. When it isn't being used to tout products, it would make a great addition to your New Years playlist.

2. What Faith Can Do, Kutless

Kutless' What Faith Can Do offers a faith-based perspective on life in the New Year, citing miracles and great possibilities are available through God. An amazing song full of hope and a great way to remember to keep the faith regardless of what the New Year brings.

1. The Power of One, Israel Houghton

In a time when people seek change for the world around them and at large, Israel Houghton's The Power of One is a powerful anthem about how one single person can make a difference. It takes just one person to start a revolution, Houghton says, to make our world better. A perfect New Year's Day song.
