Newsies Was Amazing

Updated on August 21, 2016

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of seeing the play Newsies which is a Broadway touring production.

The acting was truly amazing, and of course the dancing and singing definitely caught my attention. I was already intrigued by the play as I have a journalism degree and know some of the history of Newspapers here in the United States including the powerful Newspaper tycoons Mr. Pulitzer and Mr. Hearst as well as politician Teddy Roosevelt and both of these are featured in this play which also has due with organizing and unions..

Yes, I still work in that field to this day both as a journalist and as a activist in the community and even though I live in North Carolina which is definitely not all that friendly a union state, I still believe in the power that this institutions have and I know how important they are to our society.

It was good seeing a Broadway production tackling difficult history and social issues.....Of course, like in all good productions, there was also some romantic interests and conflicts that were resolved in the end.

Not sure where Newsies is going from here, but if you haven't seen it, or haven't seen the movie it is based on, I would urge you to check it out....Newsies definitely made this journalist's heart warm and glad to see that Extra, Extra! is still a relevant term even NOW!!!!
