O.C. - Word...Life
Omar Credle of the Diggin In The Crates crew debuts strong for 94. Really an overlooked classic.
O.C.'s Word...Life leans away from the typical hardcore style and takes a more sober approach. In my opinion its a really straight up album in the term that O.C. is so honest and tells it how it is. He comes across as fed up with all the bull and looking to do something real and move in a more positive direction.
O.C.'s got a great presence on the mic, constant and commanding with a complicated flow. Im a beat junkie but seriously most of the beats on this album are straight classic. Buckwild produces 8 of the 14 (or 15 depending on the version) tracks on the album and they are all dope. Yeah, its that style, and I can't get enough of it. "Ga Head" is produced by Lord Finesse, although it could have been just as easily produced by Buckwild, its that same style. Organized Konfusion produces 3 tracks "Creative Control", "Constables", and "Born 2 Live Remix", two are great although I find it hard to dig "Constables". The remaining 2 tracks are courtesy of DJ Ogee and are pretty average beats imo. But as a whole, the beats are just so nice, really chilled out jazzy and pleasant to listen to.
Standouts "Word...Life", "O-Zone", "Born 2 Live", "Time's Up", "Point O Viewz", "Ga Head", "Ma Dukes" (so chill).
Weakest tracks "Constables" (pretty irritating, unpleasant), "Story" (beat is ok but never really dug the whole story thing in this), "No Main Topic" (just doesnt vibe with me, similar obnoxious beat to Constables).
Besides these 3, the other 12 tracks are really dope - beatwise and lyrically. If you took the 3 weak tracks off this album would be a 5/5. But the good tracks are so quality that this album really is a must have for any fan of hip hop and dope music. I give it a rating of 4/5.
