Oldie but a goodie - BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher 2009
Some dope freestyle footage
I was watching the BET Hip-Hop Awards a few days ago, and just came across the cypher footage. I still think it's some pretty dope footage. Eminem, Mos Def, Black Thought, Joe Budden, and Krs-One's freestyle were definitely the standouts, though. Eminem having just an incredible rocket flow, delivery, complex and double rhymes...really a word smith. Mos Def - really rhythmic, deep lyrics, and a good message about his area *Brooklyn, NYC*. Black Thought - really great at riding the track *always a dope/deep lyricist*, Joe Budden *hard/clever/gritty type flow*, and of course Krs-One - he stays dropping jewels *knowledge* and is the teacher for a reason. His name says it all *Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone*. I thought Wale's set was a'ight. He was a little to chill on his set, but I feel he's a pretty dope up and coming emcee in the mainstream rap world. He's definitely been doing his thing in the DMV *D.C., Maryland, and Virginia* area since around 2004-2005. I can definitely appreciate him coming on seeing as he's from my area, and he's dope *having not only rhymes and good beats but substance/emotion*. A lot of people are still sleeping on him, but if people give him the chance - they'll realize he's a diamond in the rough. I thought Nicki Minaj's rhyme was pretty cool, too. Kind of a different flavor - I'm interested to see how she plays out when she drops her album this year on the Young Money label. Nipsey Hussle kinda reminds me of a young Snoop. I like the West Coast style of rhyming - real laid back, smooth flow. Gsan - never heard of this emcee but the stuff he dropped was pretty deep. A lot of hidden messages and topics on real social, economical activity. I definitely appreciate the fact that he comes from Tanzania - it's always good to know that Hip-Hop branches out worldly and to hear another's view other than your own dwelling. Crown Royal - I haven't heard of this cat but I dig his style and I will have to look at more of his work. I definitely can't forget Buckshot - this guy is a legend in the underground world. No other words than just peep the footage for yourself, and enjoy!
