Avatar's One Billion Dollars

Updated on January 24, 2010

Avatar's One Billion dollars

One Billion dollars that’s what the film Avatar as taken since its release in December 2009, at the weekend just gone saw the film go past the one billion mark and still taking plenty at the box office. Only 5 films have now gone over the billion dollar mark and James Cameron as 2 movies taking over one billion dollars Avatar and titanic, which came out in 1997.

Could Avatar over take Titanic at the box office? It as some way to go yet before over taking Titanic’s 1.8 billion record. However, at this point the box office taking for Avatar are up to were Titanic was, by over $200 million. Maybe Avatar could be the all-time number one box office record with the taking going over 1.8 billion, only time will tell.

Peter Jackson and George Lucas, James Cameron raises the level of technical achievement in filmmaking Avatar is no exception, with a mind-boggling $300 budget. Writer/Director, Cameron incorporates the latest CGI technology, with Jaw dropping scenery, blown away by the amazing audio and visual effects, absolutely extraordinary!!!!

Staring in Avatar are, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), Parker Selfridge (Giovanni Ribisi), Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang), Trudy Chacon (Michelle Rodriguez), Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore). The film centre’s on the mining expedition on the distant jungle moon of Pandora. Set in the year 2154 and is about a disabled ex-Marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington). Jake is assigned to the Avatar program, after his twin brother was killed.

The humans are mining for a mineral called unobtainium a rare earth mineral worth millions. Pandora has a native population called Na'vi who love nature, soulful native people, living in balanced harmony with their natural world are standing in the human’s way of their mining. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) head of avatar operation is researching the planet and teaching the natives along with Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) and Jake are to find a diplomatic solution. The film is 162 minutes long a film with non-stop energy that entertains, teaches, and delights us all, a must go and see film.

An epic outstanding, an epic film with true deep and original ideas and design, especially of the creatures in created in the 'Pandora' world. Furthermore, Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, The Abyss, Titanic just to name a few are some of Cameron’s previous work. It is truly a masterpiece and breakthrough in filmmaking technology. A number of years James Cameron as been missing from the moviemaking business. However, he is back and I’m sure they’re the will the inevitable sequel. Cameron did say if Avatar is successful, he might make up to 2 sequels to it, will look forward to them.

If Avatar isn’t successful when making over one billion dollars so far, what is successful? How far will Avatar go, will it break the box office records as it set new standards in filmmaking. Being the most expensive film to be made so far said to be around the $300 million dollar mark, but they're so many figures being banned around of the true cost of the movie. Then maybe see the highest most box office taking ever seen so far, not to mention all the DVD sales and computer games, Play Station, X-Box it will sell, I would say it’s got to be a run-a-way success.

How much do you think Avatar will make at the box office?

Titanic                                                                       $1,842.9

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King   $1,119.1

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest      $1,066.2

Avatar                                                                       $1,018.8

The Dark Knight                                                      $1,001.9

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone                $974.7

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End            $961.0

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix         $938.2

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince               $929.4

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers              $925.3

24th Jan 2010

News just in that, Avatar as now because the all time number one box office hit, over taking titanic. Titanic stands at $1.8 billion and with this weekend taking Avatar as now gone past that mark and is still being shown. How much will it take at the box office? Could Avatar see the $2 billion mark?

Take care and have fun
