Our House Was Recently Toilet Papered
Coming home to a TP'd or a Forked House!
Has your house ever been t.p'd before? How about getting the grass in your yard forked and knived? These things sound so crazy and silly, but it happens!
We came home the other night from a short trip after Christmas. We drove up and saw that our yard was toilet papered! I had to laugh, because it wasn't too bad, and it looked like it had just happened. Our neighbors up the street are usually the ones that get t.p'd, so they were probaby happy to see another yard get t.p'd.
We have two teenage sons, so I imagine that it isn't all that crazy that some of their friends would do such a thing at some point before they are all grown up. I have to admit that it did bring back some memories for me. I had some friends that wanted to t.p a house once in a while...
Something I hadn't expected was getting what is called, "forked" with plastic forks in the lawn, and knives. Some were laying by the front door also. Basically, forks were sticking up out of the grass. What can you do when you wake up and find that this has happened, but to take it lightheartedly? Next day, we had someone spill the beans, someone asked us about it with a big smile on their face! Just some friends, thinking it was funny. I recall thinking at the time, "at least we weren't t.p'd!" So now we got our turn at that as well.
It could have been worse, like if it is up for a long time, and the morning dew or rain "melts" the paper onto your trees and grass and shrubs. That is much harder to clean up.
So how do you respond to such things? Do you have a more lighthearted attitude toward it, or does it upset you? I don't blame people for getting upset, but I don't get too upset about it. The funny thing was, my younger son said after helping to clean it up, "Mom, it looks like they used high quality toilet paper and at least it was only one roll." I thought that was funny as he did. So it wasn't meant to be too mean of a prank this time at least.
What exactly is Toilet Papering?
Wikipedia has a page on toilet papering, which shows me they will have a page for just about anything! They refer to this activity as yard rolling or house wrapping as well. It says that the people who do it, will cover a house or yard in toilet paper by throwing numerous rolls of toilet paper up and over tall trees or rooftops. You do it in a way that the roll unrolls in the air and covers the desired objects. It goes on to say that it usually occurs in the United States after a homecoming football game or graduation or on Halloween. Sometimes, kids will do it for April Fool's Day, but I have found that most don't need a reason other than just to do it when they want to do it. What has your observation or experience been?
I never knew before, that some states in the U.S. consider toilet papering consider toilet papering an act of mischief or vandalism. In some states it is legal and can't be fined, such as Texas and Minnesota. Who knew how serious some take it, that they would press charges, and yet it IS going onto another property to make a mess. Most often it is just a prank or a joke on people.
I am curious to know if you ever did such things as many kids do, or if it has happened to the place where you live. Please consider leaving me a comment below, it would be fun to see who else has experienced this one way or another? Were you ever caught toilet papering, did anyone ever call the police on you and your friends, or chase you away? Did you have a get away car/driver ready to speed off? Does this bring back any memories? I figure it is all in good fun, but there is no denying it is way more fun for the kids than it is for those it happens to.
