An active church is the last place I’d expect to go to a psychobilly show. But, a little after 8PM on July 28th, 2010, I found myself at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, anxiously waiting for the Nekromantix show to start. Once inside the venue, I didn’t know what to expect because I didn’t even know the names of the opening bands, all I could think about was how funny it would be to hear “Horny in a Hearse” in a CHURCH! When the Howlers played the first couple songs of their set, the haunting, versatile vocals backed by ass-kicking upright bass, drums & guitar instantly got me hooked. Suddenly, I wasn't just thinking about when the Nekromantix were going to play, I was also like "Who are these dudes? They are bloody AMAZING!" I, of course, bought a CD and a shirt from the merch table after the show!

“Dead and Gone” (sometimes listed as "Dead N Gone") is definitely my favorite song on their “Follow the Wolf” EP (Smelvis Records 2008). "We haunt this place most every night~The graveyard is a pretty site~ We'll creep up when you're all alone~Dead into the night she'll go~She must be dead and gone" - From "Dead and Gone"  If you're a lover of death, graveyards and howling at the moon, you'll love the songs on "Follow the Wolf".

I wasn’t able to find out much about this band except that they hail from the San Gabriel Valley area in Southern California and have opened for the Nekromantix, Mad Sin, Rezurex, Coffin Draggers, Klingonz, Calavera and Demented Are Go. For more about what the Howlers are like live, check out this great concert review by Kim Kattari, LA Rockabilly/Psychobilly Examiner. All I know is, this psychobilly wolf pack’s moon is rising, so follow them into their lunar eclipse of success.

The Howlers are:

Eli Misery – Vocals
J - Lead guitar & backing vocals
Peter Panic- Slappin’ Bass
Jared- Guitar & backing vocals
Vince- Drums
