Classic R and B Male Bands

1. The Isley Brothers: Ron and Ernie started this soul band in 1954 and by 1959 they were nationally famous for the song, "Twist and Shout." They have made pop, soul, R and B, and even two Gospel albums. The theme of their music remains the same. Love between a man and a woman. Also, The Isley's have some upbeat dance songs that are still played at social and sporting events. My favorite song by the Isleys is: It's You're Thing. This is not a group that I remember growing up, they were before my time but, my dad, had a cassette tape. On that cassette tape was the tape that contained the song, Twist and Shout.

2. The Temptations: The best Doo Wop group ever and they ruled much of the late 60s and much of the 1970s R and B with their flashy clothes, dance moves and their voices which at times sang in harmony. My favorite song by The Temptations is: Papa Was A Rollin' Stone. The have performed all over the globe and their music is still used in movies and on television. They had beautiful voices and were loved by music lovers worldwide.

3. The Commodores: This band was roadies for the Jackson 5 but, once Motown heard the voices it was a done deal, record deal that is. The band is known as a funk band but, they also represent one really talented R and B group as well. They are known for extreme dance routines and beautiful ballads. My favorite Commodores song is: Night Shift.

4. Parliament Funkadelic: George Clinton is the mastermind behind this funk, rock and R and B band. They began performing in 1968 and had an impact on the music industry as a whole including Snoop Dogg. My favorite Parliament song is: Atomic Dog. He has elaborate stage performances and the group dressed in some far out there attire. I do not know about this group. sounds like, I was not born yet. They seem to be very popular.

5. The Jackson 5: Michael Jackson and his brothers could dance and they had charisma but, most importantly those guys had great harmony and rhythm. Easily, the most recognizable band on this list, they had many great concerts and songs before splitting up. My favorite Jackson 5 song is: Dancin' Machine. Michael was known for his amazing, dancing and grooving all over the stage during performances with the talented band. Michael Jackson, went on to have an amazing solo career.

6. Earth, Wind and Fire: This band started banging out hits in 1969 to the tune of rock, funk, soul and F and B. The group is well known for their horns that they perform with and stage stunts that make the group Kiss seem shy by comparison. My favorite Earth Wind and Fire song is: Boogie Wonderland.

7. Boyz II Men: This band ruled R and B in the 90s with their emotional love songs and they toured around the world performing dance and love songs to the masses. Although known for sad love songs they have also had many snappy dance songs as well. My favorite Boyz II Men song is: End of The Road. This tight harmony pushed these guys to the top of the charts each time a song was released.

8. The O'Jays: One of the top bands of the 60s and 70s, The O'Jays have made sixteen (16) studio albums and their smooth, soulful voices are beautiful to hear any time. My favorite song from Levert and The O'Jays is: For The Love of Money. Once again, this band was before my time.

9. Jodeci`: This band came out in 1990 and have never looked back, making hits with rap stars such as Tupac and collaborating with other stars like: Johnny Gill and Missy Elliot. They had a certain swag and style like no other before or after that made them special. The King's of New Jack let loose on stage with real emotions. My favorite Jodeci song is: Come and Talk To Me.

10. War: This R and B and Jazz band rocked the country on it's heels with the album entitled "The World Is A Ghetto". Their music fusion of Latin, Jazz and Blues make this a very unique band. My favorite song by War is: The Low Rider. They had great drums and the hooks to the songs were always on point.

Mr. Bigg

Ron Isley not only performed with the Isley a Brothers but he had an outstanding solo career too! And Isley teamed up with R. Kelly for many songs and music videos which were very successful. As Ron aged he seemed to get even better and was music will always withstand the test of time.

Whether it's Ron Isley on a solo album or The Isley Brothers as a crew you will be getting top notch rhythm and blues to relax to.
