Destination?....... Fiddle Heaven!!

Updated on February 2, 2013

An RV and lots of Fiddle music............what a combination!!

Keeping time to the music of Ivan Hicks or Germain Leduc while rolling down the road in an RV, is as close as you can get to fiddle heaven! There's also Shane Cook, Mark Sullivan, John Arcand, J.P. Cormier & the Elliott Brothers, Patti Kusturok, & Danny Perreault to enjoy and tap your toes to as you sit around a camp fire visiting and renewing friendships! It is said that music is a universal language.........we've certainly seen evidence of that statement as we sit in campgrounds listening to our CD's and have had numerous people stop by to ask "What fiddler is that playing"? We are always happy to answer them and let them know that we are on our way to one of the biggest fiddle contests in Canada. That being "The Pembroke Old Time Fiddling and Step Dancing Championships" in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada.

Headin' East

August 1st of every year is the beginning of our annual trek to the Ottawa Valley for the most relaxing, fun-filled, musical holiday. I am of course, referring to the Pembroke Old Time Fiddle & Stepdance Contest, in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada. From Edmonton, Alberta we head east to visit with our friends and enjoy some of the very best fiddle music in the world! 10 days of jammin' in fiddle park and meeting and visiting with old friends........what a hoot! Of course, we have all the tools to help us bring the memories home with camera, tape recorder, video camera, and laptop, to keep track of all the names and email addresses we gather and videos of the "jams" throughout the park to look back at during the long winter months.

A little more

My husband and I were both born and raised in the Nova Scotia, therefore fiddle music is in our blood. Our trip can be a 5000 mile one if we go directly to the east coast but that only happens approximately every three years. However, every year we make "The Pembroke Old Time fiddle & Stepdancing contest" our destination. If we do go to Nova Scotia we always come back to Pembroke for the annual contest.

While in Nova Scotia, we also get to enjoy lots of fiddle music at parties and concerts, especially when we go across the Canso Causeway to Cape Breton where you can find a ceilidh, concert, dance, or a kitchen party any night of the week. Nova Scotia is plum full of musicians........they come out of the woodwork everywhere.

As we go through each province, we have favorite campgrounds that we overnight in with friends we have met along the way. There are some terrific campgrounds and owners in this country.......always there to help you in any way they can be of assistance.

Fiddle Music videos

Here is a sample of what goes on at Fiddle Park during the week in one of the jammin' tents. There are hundreds of young people playing and enjoying one another's company just as you see here. These tents are set up all throughout the park so there is music abound!
