Rammstein On The Index

There I was, surfing in the hopes of buying Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da; Rammstein's sixth studio album, when a friend called me up and said, "Hey Ash, did you see that they put a restriction on the album?"

Woah pony! Restriction? What restriction? And who is they??

After much searching, endless pages of results to many keywords, I found what I was looking for. The restriction imposed on the album was one of it not being suitable to minors. I laughed. Not suitable to minors? So is Britney Spears' provocative antics on stage or Adam Lambert's sexually fuelled (I am an Adam fan!!) episode on the American Music Awards suitable for minors? It encourages and stimulates a child's mind to one of sexuality.

After sourcing up a few sites, this is what had to say about the Index: "The new album Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da is a danger to children. The song "Ich Tu Dir Weh" and the image of Richard with a woman over his knee are now on what is known as "the index" in Germany. That means that the album itself is on the index and can no longer be purchased by minors in Germany. It has been decided that the lyrics of "Ich tu dir weh" contain depictions of S&M practices that are harmful to minors. also provides the lyrics to every song released by Rammstein, and not one contains explicit language. Rammstein provide their expressions in imagery. Now while the imagery could be seen as harmful to some, to others including myself, it is but an image related to modern day society. Off the latest album, one song reflects the case of Josef Fritzl, the father who imprisoned his daughter and fathered several of her children. Sick, twisted, evil.

Look at artists who sing in English. Rihanna tells us " I know that I must pass this test, so just pull the trigger" in her latest song Russian Roulette. Adam Lambert tells us "it's about to get rough for you, I'm here for your entertainment." Another favourite of mine, Bryan Adams, sings "let's make a night to remember all night long." Linkin Park sings how they are "going out of my f**king mind."

I listen to a lot of music, both classics and modern and what i see about classic is that they disguise the true meaning of the lyrics and paint them clean so that one must read between the lines where as modern day music throws the truth into your face; rape, murder, violent, sex. It's all there and yet none (or should I say most) are on the INdex list for things that are inappropriate for minors. Children listen and pick up things, ten to one they do what they shouldn't. " But mama, I heard it from Enimem."

Now I leave you with a simple thought. Listen more carefully to those English songs and realize what the song is telling you. For those who want to see for themselves, a link will be placed to read Rammstein's lyrics and see that it's all imagery. Why is it that one can sing about sex and violence so openly, and yet that when a band sings about the truth, they are condemned as such?

Have you listened more closely to music lyrics after reading this?

All the media attention will work wonders for the band! Great free publicity! This is the oldest trick in the book! I personally think their music is cool! That's just me!
