Review of the Album "Killer Holidays on Planet Earth" by Italian Thrash Metal Band Abduction
About the Band Abduction & Their Vocal Style
Abduction is a very entertaining party thrash metal band from Sardinia and these Italian guys released their second studio album called Killer Holidays on Planet Earth on April 20, 2020. The idea for this band was started because it was started as a solo project of vocalist Elvio Corona. The vocals though are really high pitched but they do not have those vocal shrieks that you hear from some bands.
Analysis of the Songs Uranus Attacks, the Title Track, Grandpa Rick, and XXX Files
“Uranus Attacks” is the song that begins this album as a combination of spooky sounds and electronic sounds starts and I know you might be thinking that this is some cheesy music but then the thrash metal starts and here we go! The song lyrically tries to bring the message that the extinction of the Earth is near and that we must run for our lives. The title track begins in such a way that I am reminded of Powerslave era Iron Maiden. There is a distinct melody that should remind some of you of the song Flash of the Blade. After that beginning section, then the thrash metal style and approach begins. It switches back to that beginning riff again as we are treated to some fun kind of thrash! This melodic, heavy, and entertaining style of thrash continues in the next song called Grandpa Rick. It is a really refreshing feeling to know that thrash metal could be this melodic but this is a different kind of melodic thrash compared to other thrash metal bands such as Kreator. “XXX Files” is a song that stylistically reminds me of the album called Alice in Hell because of the sound and riffing style. It has that raw thrash sound but it is more modern.
"Uranus Attacks"
The Band Abduction Is a Good Mix of Exodus, Iron Maiden, and Municipal Waste
Speaking of more modern, the last part of that song has a melody that Iron Maiden would love. “The Baloff Zone” is a song that sounds like its name implies. The song is influenced by the album Bonded by Blood because of the riffing structure and it sounds kind of raw for the modern standards. The song is trying to say in a humorous way that it is time to party. Will Paul Baloff rise again? The 9th song called “If You Don't Like Star Wars We Can't Be Friends” is a song that is in a way trying to say that those people that don't like the Star Wars movies are not worthy of value or respect but there may be some humor in the song. The sound of the light saber sword can also be heard in the song. A second listen through this album shows that I am reminded that Abduction sounds like a better version of the band Municipal Waste. “TV Circus” is a song that is about the negative effects of viewing too much TV.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the album Killer Holidays on Planet Earth is a refreshing form of modern thrash that is sure to please the avid thrash metal fan. Other than the vocals that could be better, the album is an almost 35 minute thrash metal album that infuses Iron Maiden style melodies with a little bit of Municipal Waste mixed in and what we get is thrash metal from Italy that should be noticed.
