Review of the Album R.I.B. by German Thrash Metal Band Tankard
A Special Album In Spite of the Title
R.I.B. is the 2014 studio album by German thrash metal band Tankard and this stands for Rest In Beer. Yes, that is the title of this album and it fits very well with what these guys have been involved with for almost 4 decades. They have set the standard for creating fun and entertaining party thrash metal that works out very well! There is a laugh by the singer Andreas Geremia in the song Fooled by Your Guts. War Cry starts off this album and the beginning of it has some very creative acoustic guitars. The song lyrically is about a force that brings war upon the land. There is a title track in this album that starts out slow. Little has changed for Tankard since 2004 when I first got into the album Beast of Bourbon. The riffing is as intense and heavy as ever as lyrically the dangers of too much alcohol use are written about in the songs themselves. This album may have been released in 2014 but the approach that Tankard has taken is still very much solid.
Don't allow this band's lyrical themes drive you away because their brand of thrash is creative if you listen to it long enough.
Why Tankard Is a Unique Thrash Metal Band
I don't ever recall any other German thrash metal band having lyrics having to do so much with partying. So, in that sense, Tankard is one of those bands that is that unique thrash metal gem in the history of thrash metal. Not even Blind Guardian in their early years had this kind of intense heaviness or lyrics about partying.

Analysis of the Songs In R.I.B.
“Riders of the Doom” is a song about the actions of corporations as these actions are referred to as evil and there is a reference to “ruthless tycoons.” Corporations do not have a good view among the majority of the population. One thing that can be surmised about this band is that they are very much against corporate power and this is a sentiment that is shared by many of us worldwide. “Hope Can't Die” is a song that has the power to motivate us to live our best lives. In the song there is a reference made to the fact that humans are mortals and through hardship that we experience, life goes on after that experience. Does it take real courage for some to realize that they are mortals and death is certain? Some of us have a hard time accepting the truth of certain situations. “No One Hit Wonder” is a song that makes reference to the fact that there are some pop music stars that release a song that goes to the top of the music charts and they become so popular that they are able to live the rest of their lives in luxury. Breakfast for Champions is a song about someone that wakes up out of bed feeling totally confused. He desires a sort of breakfast for champions. Does anyone remember the cereal Wheaties? I certainly do. In life we are sometimes out of sorts but a good healthy breakfast helps us get started in the right direction. “Clockwise to Deadline” is a song that lyrically tries to describe the human life cycle. When we are born into this world, we play a certain role. As we get into old age time is running out on us so that's why life is too worthwhile to waste it. We might as well enjoy this sweet gift called life right?
Another Major Reason for the Greatness of the Band Tankard Is
Tankard probably has not become as popular as other bands in the genre but every album of theirs has been at least good and that's a standard of consistency that not all bands have had. Tankard hasn't really gone away from their brand of heavy party thrash and when they have stuck to it all these years, it has worked out like a clock that continues to function in its optimal state without running out of batteries. One day, Tankard will call it a career at some point but these guys have impressed me once again and they should remind some of us that great groovy party thrash does exist. Tankard may not be like Pantera was in 1990 when they got into groovy thrash but this type of thrash is fast, relentless, and something that works for every album that these guys from Frankfurt have done. Once again, this is another solid album by Frankfurt Germany's kings of thrash metal! Yes, the word is kings because no matter what these guys write musically it never seems to be dull or lack creativity.
